OK.......I admit that I was a non-believer with high priced baits when I first started this ridiculously expensive sport.  I mean how much of a freaking difference does it really matter to a fish how it moves and twitches.  It's a reaction bait.   A jerkbait is a jerkbait....I thought.  I have always gone middle of the road with my bass gear and all of my crankbaits and jerkbaits have been in the $4-9 range, sticking mainly with strike king KVD brands, with good results.  After reading so much about how great the LC Pointer 100 and 78's are, I thought I would treat myself with the $90 winnings from my weekly football pool and dropped $16 on one from ebay the other day.  So it arrived this weekend and I headed out today to put it to the test.   I'm a little sickened by the results I received form the pointer.  It was absolutely amazing.  31 SM bass with 5 over 3lbs and 20 or more over 2lbs. Defintely a winning bag.   Not one under 12".  I have never gotten results like that with KVD jerkbaits or Rattlin Rogues which I primarily use. I have a 10 cast rule before I leave an area or try another bait.  The most I got to all day was 8 casts before I caught a fish.   So we all know what this means.  The bait monkey has bitten me again.  And this time it hurts.   Back to ebay for another $16 jerkbait.

They are my favorite jerkbaits. I usually buy them used or from a few places for less when there are sales. The 100sp also casts quite well.

I am a big Fan of the LC 100 & the 100DD as well.

And for a buck or two less - Do Not over look the Duo Realis Jerkbait  100SP & 110SP ~

Very High Quality Bait; made with high end components and most importantly Does everything the LC baits does - just does it a little bit better.

It casts a mile.  It is also tough as nails.  I bounced it off a few rocks because it got away from me.  Does anyone know what type of hooks they use? Dinged one up pretty good  Still caught fish but would like to replace it.  I have some triple grips that are a little larger but worried it would throw off the balance.

I'll look into this bait as well.

LC jerkbaits are my favorite. They out perform any other jerkbait I have used. They are worth the money. Welcome to the club! I won't put it up but AJ has a site that I spent my kids college tuition on! I'll let him ruin your kids future if he wants. Lol.

Jerkbaits are one of those lures that really make a difference when you pay for the expensive ones. I am not really sure why it is jerkbaits but something about them realy matters.

Yup after having most of the affordable baits I splurged on four luckycraft pointers and high roller poppers. They work.

Of course I hate to lose one. Haven't yet. I keep them in the open water.

Yes.  I was doing that as well all day as well as retying every 5 or 6 fish something I never do.  It will need a few more reps before I start throwing into cover.

I'm also a fan of the Duo Realis jerkbaits along with the Pointers. Just be glad you haven't gotten into the Megabass, or worse, swimbaits  :dazed-7:

I'm a big fan or Rattlin' Rogues and X-Raps but the Pointers are a must have. Don't stop using the others though, I found I do better having a few different brands and it is because they all have different triggering properties. What I believe makes the Pointer so good is that when you stop it, it stops, some baits will glide a bit but the Pointer stops dead. Another thing, well actually two things, the first is that it suspends over a broader range of temperatures than most and it has a slight wobble or vibration when you stop it and that sitting in place while having that subtle little motion seems to make fish crazy and they smack it. There are certain times when other baits are more effective, if the water is clear but has color to it, a Rattlin' Rogue is tough to beat, and I've had days where it was a much better bait but when it is tough and the fish are finicky is when the Pointer shines.

Does licky craft, duo, or Megabass even make a UL sized jerkbait? I am a huge fan of the size 6 x-raps. They absolutely kill it and I would bet one from those other company's would be even better.

The LC Pointer 65 is similar in size and available pretty easily, they also make 50 sized and even smaller Pointers.  MB makes a few jerkbaits in that size too but they are harder to come by, only seen them on Japanese tackle sites and haven't pulled the trigger on any yet.  I have some Duo 63 size jerkbaits in the mail from TW as we speak.  Lots of options out there for the smaller sized jerkbaits.

For the OP, you think LC's are bad...Don't even try Megabass.  Both are addicting ;)

I like my pointers, but they go to a whole other level when you swap on some short shank ewg hooks.

That's like the opposite how I decide to use a ewg. I like a ewg on baits they totally engulf in their mouth. Any bait they will slap at I stick with round bend. The hooks are pointed slightly in on ewg so I figure if the just slash at it you have less chance f them catching a point.

That's how I determine  whether to use an EWG or a straight shank also.  Topwaters and jerkbaits always get straight shanks.

That's a bold statement, have to agree with you. sticky hooks on them outta the box.

A friend just cast one that i had for 3 years off into oblivion from not checking his knot last weekend.. that bait had endured a lot of punishment, well constructed.
