Super User ww2farmer Posted September 24, 2015 Super User Posted September 24, 2015 I am also not a fan of Trokar hooks for many of the already stated reasons. It used to be that hooks (and line) were one area I spared no expense on. But Mustad,VMC, and Eagle Claw are making excellent hooks at reasonable prices these days, and they are about all I use anymore. I have not had a Gamakatsu or Owner hook in my boat for over 3 years and have seen no difference in hook up and landing %. Quote

The Trokar started out as a heavy wire flipping hook that worked good to achieve hook penetration with less hook setting force required. The fact Trokar price point cost 10X more than other high quality premium brands limits it's general usage. Broadening the Trokar line up offering worm hooks hasn't worked because of the price, so Eagle Claw has lowered the standard line of worm hook price point to generate more sales. The light wire wacky hooks from Gamakatsu, Owner, Mustad Ultra, VMC, Daichi and Eagle Claw Needle point, all perform very good, tough market for the Trokar brand to be competitive in at a higher price that offers little or no advantage. Welcome to the BR site. Tom The Trokar 137 came out in 2019. It is normal priced. It looks like very light wire and has a V bend. I am looking for the best Wacky hook, what do you think ? Quote
Super User WRB Posted January 28, 2021 Super User Posted January 28, 2021 Owner Jungle weedless wacky hook is light weight extremely strong and sharp and what I use. Tom Quote

Tom Tom I go bank fishing, that Jungle hook would be great for me I suppose with my 6 LB line. As a bank fisherman do I need a offset hook for my wacky rig cause I horizontal cast, not much vertically ? I think I would not need an offset hook cause the wacky falls straight down for the bites just as from a boat. Though Mark Zona says he uses an offset hook for horizontal cast from the boat and a straight shank hook when dropping straight down, makes no sense to me ? Quote
Super User BrianMDTX Posted January 28, 2021 Super User Posted January 28, 2021 I use Gamakutsu 1/0 circle octopus hooks for wacky rigs. I rarely lose a bass. And if I do, it’s likely it just bit the end of the bait and never took the hook. Quote

Super User WRB Posted January 28, 2021 Super User Posted January 28, 2021 I do fish from a boat but when using Senko’s target casting to near shoreline cover areas, usually brush line and pockets. The Owner weedless Jungle is very snag free if you work it by jiggling it out of trouble. I cut off about 1/8” of the wire weed guard. Tom Quote
