Outlawtukey98 Posted September 20, 2015 Posted September 20, 2015 I'm new to braided line and I tried to put it on my baitcaster. I put it on and made sure it was tightly put on there. I then tried to cast it and it birds nested. What should I do? Quote
Super User Big Bait Fishing Posted September 20, 2015 Super User Posted September 20, 2015 adjust your brakes( more than what your used to) , adjust the spool tension control knob( tighter than what your use to ) , and practice short casts till you get used to it then ease off on the spool tension knob and the brakes , also use your thumb on the spool when you cast .... d-camarena Posted September 20, 2015 Posted September 20, 2015 What lb test braid are you using? And are your breaks on at all? How heavy was the lure you tried casting? Quote
Fisher-O-men Posted September 20, 2015 Posted September 20, 2015 Is this for real? Pick it out and try again! Cast easy at first! 1 Quote

Super User MickD Posted September 21, 2015 Super User Posted September 21, 2015 If you are new to baitcasting, you are just going to have to learn the fundamentals then practice a lot. There are many videos on line on how to set up the reel and how to cast with it. If you are expecting to get it right with all types of lures right away, you'd be better off with a spinning rig. Do an internet search on "how to set up a baitcasting reel," then "how to cast with a baitcasting reel." Don't give up, you'll catch on, and it's worth the time and effort. Sort of like learning to drive a stick shift car. Quote
