Wanted to get some feedback on fishing reminder info is it really accurate when it says poor fishing and or excellent fishing??

Posted

With my experiences no, none of the fishing apps have been accurate for me, i catch alot of fish on poor days and no fish on good days. The most i use those apps for now is to get weather info and sun rise times

Ive found it to be fairly inaccurate, catching fish on poor days and getting skunked on excellent days. That being said i still pull it up before fishing just to see if i can ever find a correlation. Havent found one yet

Those "universal" fishing apps are not to be relied on, nor are any other "universal" guides, such as moon phase or the proverbial "best times of the day when the fish will bite" charts.  Your best source of information will be the local guides, or the locals themselves.

The report's from the day before, at best. If it's a bad report the fish will be starving for your bait the next day. If it's a good report the fish will be suffering PTSD, will be nursing the holes in their lips, and wont bite anything the next day.

I was faithfully following the Maori charts on when there are good times and bad times to fish. I did adjust there time to my time zone. My PB 10# was caught when the charts said good early. My PB was caught at 4:30/5am at twilight.

Like the charts said good early. These Maori charts were in Outdoor Life. But they discontinued them. On the days they said excellent I caught fish. The Maori charts were pretty much correct. I'm thinking there going by the moon phases.

The Linder boys at Infisherman did a show about how to catch record breaking fish. They fish by the full moon phases.

They say fish days before the full moon, during the full moon phase and days after the full moon phase.

Thanks for comments guys...big bill i agree with moon phases and i also hunt and have seen the same with the deer feed around certain times of moon phase...them linder boys fish way more than me. I would say they know what they are doing thanks

I was fishing in the light warm drizzle(rain). It was during the full moon phases. The bass bite was on. I felt something looking at me. I look down the road there's a doe with two fawns frozen looking at me. My point is it seems everything is on the move during the moon phases. It could be a plus in our favor.

The weather far overpowers the moon scale. With that said, I do believe that, all things equal, (weather patterns, fronts etc...) bigger fish will feed better in certain moon phases. I would never let the moon dictate when or where I fish though.

Unless the weather is obviously bad, for example heavy rain, with thunder lightening. Would I decide not to go fishing. I am not going allow a fishing reminder govern when I go fishing. I have been skunked when that thing says its excellent fishing, and flat out killed them when it says the fishing is going to be poor. You decide.

I think those charts are about like the Farmers Almanac.  I read once that all of those weather predictions are simply an average of what the weather has been over a 10 year period of time.  No way can the weather, down here in Florida, be accurately predicted even a week ahead of time.  How can anyone believe a prediction of a year at a time, and, add into that year the time of editing and publication.

I think those fishing charts based on moon phase and tide are somewhat accurate, but, local weather trumps those charts.  Just about every calendar published, and available at every big box store; has the moon phase pictured on it.

All that being said, I only go fishing when I get the chance.  Sometimes the weather and fishing is good and sometimes, like yesterday, it is bad.

I have never understood the fixation anglers have with "best times vs. worst times", aside from general seasonal patterns. Local weather patterns, local temperature trends, and local ecological conditions will overwhelm other general trends, On top of that, an angler's ability to find fish, choose and execute effective presentations will be the main drivers of success.

In principle, it would be shocking if moon phase didn't exert some effect on fish behavior, and therefore affect fishing. Holding everything else exactly constant, I'm sure it does, if for no other reason than moonlight intensity influencing the amount of light penetration. In practice, though, none of the other things that affect success are ever constant. I have never found it useful to look at moon phase and say to myself, "well I'd like to go fishing, but I won't because the chart says the fishing should be bad."

The reality is that those best times and tidal movements are related to the moon.

The times for the major periods are as follows

1 1/2 hours prior to the moon reaching its apex

1 1/2 hours prior to the moon reaching is perigee

The times for the minor periods are as follows

1 1/2 hours prior to the raising of the moon

1 1/2 hours prior to the setting of the moon

Those times coincide with tidal movements

These times DO NOT take into account weather, seasons, or your ability to locate fish!

Good or bad I go anyway when I want to fish.

The Single Most Reliable way for me to know what's going on at the lake - is to get out on it.

Everything else is guess work.

Btw - on any given day, the "Catching" might be poor, But the Fishing is Always Excellent.

A_Jay that is the best answer to the question I have seen! There are times when the lunar stage is significant in my opinion, but catching fish is not the only reason many of us fish. For some of us it is not even the primary reason! Enjoy the process and leave the charts to fortunetellers, politicians, and other disreputable types.
