I was fishing a small pond today that I have always had trouble finding and catching bass at. The bass I have caught here in the past have been very fat and healthy. Today I tried all kinds of finesse lures: jigs, senkos, shakey heads and wacky rigs. I managed to get a few dinks on the shakey head with a zoom trick worm.

Around sunset, I tied on a lunker city salad spoon and began to swim it slowly on the surface and some really really fat bass decided to show up.

This lure was a game changer for me. Try it out sometime, the bass cannot resist.

Biggest one went 3 lbs flat... at 17 inches long!  :eyebrows:  what a fatty !!!

honestly you can fill in the blank here.  most stuff in the tackle box works at dawn/dusk. it's my favorite time to fish just for that reason. i rarely get to say this sentence when bass fishing but it seems like i can do no wrong :eyebrows:

Honestly I wish I could say the same. These bass are extremely finicky and like all long island bass, difficult to catch. I know that some other type of soft plastic that had a similar action may have worked too but definitely not lures such as crankbaits, buzzbaits, spinnerbaits, swimbaits, jig or even a senko.. They are that hard to catch

I've had days like that as well. Recently, my buddy and I were out on a high pressure, clear day and really struggling for bites. We were throwing everything at them until I tried a lipless bait and it was lights out after that. I gave my buddy one in the same color and we ended up having a banner day; because of that 1 bait change.

I think that's the most rewarding thing about fishing is when you figure out what can consistantly make them bite that day.

Nice job Weld.

That's really cool! Love it when you know you have them figured out.

Thanks!
