Dypsis Posted September 18, 2015 Posted September 18, 2015 So at the TW sale I picked up a buzzjet Jr. How do you guys fish them or similar style baits. Steady retrieve, pop it so it doves under for a second? Thanks, Matt Quote
Super User A-Jay Posted September 18, 2015 Super User Posted September 18, 2015 I have & fish both sizes - Good Bait. I fish them one of two ways; Either a slow steady retrieve with no pause Or the same retrieve with a pause. Pause length varies. btw - The buzzjet has proven itself to be a decent night time bait on more than one occasion. The Nude Black's been a winning shade for me A-Jay 2 Quote
Super User smalljaw67 Posted September 19, 2015 Super User Posted September 19, 2015 The Buzz Jet is a wake bait and it works well on a slow steady retrieve, but I found that if you vary your speed during a retrieve it makes it even more effective. I'm different than A-Jay as I don't pause them or any other wake bait, but I do like to speed up and slow down during the retrieve, this will often give you clues to how they want it. Sometimes the back has to be out of the water and other times that want the entire bait under the surface, but it is exciting to fish. 1 Quote
einscodek Posted September 19, 2015 Posted September 19, 2015 steady retrieve pause and go sharp pops I had the fullsize version but wasnt all that impressed and returned it Already have plenty of effective topwaters that cost a fraction of it 1 Quote
Dypsis Posted September 21, 2015 Author Posted September 21, 2015 Thanks for the replies, mine (Blue Gill) should be here tomorrow and I have a 2 day club tournament this weekend and if the situation allows I'm going to throw it out there and see what happens. Quote
Dypsis Posted September 25, 2015 Author Posted September 25, 2015 Here's a good one for you: so the club tourney was canceled last night do to potential tropical storms. I was off Friday to pre-fish anyway I decided to go to a small farm pond near the house to at least get out. Right off the bat I start throwing my buzzjet Jr and play around with the retrieve and see how it acts on the water. After 5-10 minutes I get a bit and a nice one at that. Start to bring her in and unfortunately since we haven't had rain in forever the water level is so low. It's about 3-5' from the bank and too muddy to stand in or you sink. So I get her to the edge of the water and this is probably a 5lb fish - SWEET! But not the problem is how to get her to me and unhook her. As I'm trying to lightly step onto the mud and grab her she break me off at the knot. I'll blame me for the bad knot. So inlrss than 10 minutes o lost a $25 lure. Quote
Super User J Francho Posted September 25, 2015 Super User Posted September 25, 2015 Slow and steady, or burn it with about a foot of your rod tip under water. Quote
