So I have a Abu Garcia Blackmax bait caster rod and reel combo and it says it has a 15 pound test. But I got accidentally got 20 pound braid. Can I use 20 pound braid it? Also how do y'all tie your spinnerbaits on because I was using one the other day just with a regular fishing knot and the knot came untied and I lost my fish and spinnerbaits.

Well for most brands 20 pound braid has the diameter of 6 pound mono so I see no reason why you could not use it. A good knot for braid is the palomar knot. It's very easy to tie and is very strong. I have never had one slip.

You may end up having many issues with 20lb braid on a baitcaster. Mainly line dig digging in and trouble casting. You want to have a line diameter of 10 lb mono to about 20 lb mono on that reel for best results. I would look at getting a 50 lb braid and using that. Loosen the drag a little bit and you are ready to go. As far as a knot I use a uni knot on everything I tie with no issues. I hear a lot of guys here say use a Palomar knot. Look up either one on you tube to see how to tie it correctly. Sounds like whatever knot you are using is slipping through and untying.

maybe even 50. There is no line rating for reels, just capacity per diameter. 15 is for spinning reels and not for use around rip rap. Also most guys use a Palomar or uni knot for braid. I double my line and tie a san Diego jam. In any case go through the eye of the hook twice and use mono leaders around sharp rocks.

Sorry, I obviously didn't read this.

I have 50# braid on BC reels because it digs into your spool when you set the hook or yank it out of a snag. 50# is the same diameter of 12# mono. A 20# braid will be thinner and dig into itself on the spool worse. Just remember if you lock down the drag on a cheaper reel (one with a graphite or composite frame) and horse really big fish in you could damage the reel. 50# braid is suitable for fishing frogs in thick weeds and slop. This is a situation where you would normally cinch that drag and yank the fish out.

I'm not knocking the Black Max or lower budget reels. One of my reels has a composite frame too. Just keep it in mind. An alternative to that is 15-17# Berkley Big Game mono. I've caught a bunch of big bass on that line. ;)

After giving 832, Super Slick, Kast King and Power Pro workouts in just about every water condition!!

I like the Power Pro the best. I found it has to be casted for awhile to bring out the best in it. And it is the best in my opinion. lol, I never thought I'd have to give a line break in time... It's a fantastic braid.

I'm stripping all the other braids tomorrow and spooling up with 30, 40 and 65 PP before I head out to the lake.

I use Power Pro and Suffix braids, like them the best.  All braids will not work with the common knots that work fine on mono, so the advice on other knots is good advice.  If you use a leader, then you have another issue with the leader to line knot, which is an issue that gets a LOT of different opinions.  Look back in the history of this forum subject and you'll find a number of strings that go over it in excruciating detail and diversity.

I use 30lb braid on all of my bait casters. Never had an issue.

#30lb. braid with mono 30% ~ 40% mono backing ; join lines with double uni or crazy alberto knot .

Spool your braid through the middle of a thick telephone book to get some tension on the line - key to keeping braid from digging in is reel it on tight !

Here's another tip : Carry a small wash rag with you - every so often after casting , wet the wash rag , weave it between a few fingers and run the braid between your fingers putting tension on it as you reel the braid back in .

Lastly , watch your drag - braid has NO stretch so loosen up the drag more than you would with mono or FC .

Hope this helps ... Follow above with #30 lb. braid and you will have few line related problems - except professional over runs which are on you :)

20lb is fine for bait casting. I use 20lb Power Pro

on my rigs. Yes, it can dig in on snags, etc., but

if you are aware of that potential issue, then you

can deal with it by letting some line out before

your next cast to make sure you're not dug in.
