jrauty Posted September 16, 2015 Posted September 16, 2015 I'm looking to purchase a new baitcasting rod because my cousin broke mine over the summer. I'm not exactly sure what to get. I'll spend up to 200 dollars but preferably around 160. I know just about every rod company has a rod in this range but what is your guys favorites? I want to use the rod as an all purpose kind of deal. Quote
Super User Choporoz Posted September 16, 2015 Super User Posted September 16, 2015 What is the best car for 35K? You're likely to get 'better' recommendations if you narrow it a bit....What do you plan to use it for? Do you have any opinions, preferences to start from other than price point? Quote
jrauty Posted September 16, 2015 Author Posted September 16, 2015 I would like split grips and like I said I want to use it for almost everything. I just want to know what your guys favorite rid is in that price point Quote
Super User Senko lover Posted September 16, 2015 Super User Posted September 16, 2015 No experience but I'd be looking at a Shimano Zodias or G. Loomis E6X. 1 Quote
a1712 Posted September 16, 2015 Posted September 16, 2015 No experience but I'd be looking at a Shimano Zodias or G. Loomis E6X. Great answer. I'd get a Zodias for the simple reason, I'm in the minority, I hate Cork. Brian. Quote
poisonokie Posted September 16, 2015 Posted September 16, 2015 I recommend the Daiwa Tatula 711MHRB. It would be an excellent all around rod. For me, it's been the best worm and jig rod I've ever used. It has a mod-fast action that is perfect for braided line. It is very sensitive and lightweight without sacrificing power. There is more than enough backbone to set heavy hooks and steer around kicker fish. The grips are comfortable and ergonomic and the guides are excellent. Plus, cranks, traps, and topwaters are well within its capability, especially with a mono/fluoro leader. I prefer composite rods for that, but this one will get the job done. I know I get more and better hooksets out of jigs, t rigs, and spinnerbaits than ever before with xfast rods. Quote
SMITTY0045 Posted September 23, 2015 Posted September 23, 2015 I'm gonna have to second the tatula rod. For $150 it's hard to find a rod that is as durable and sensitive as this one 1 Quote
Ronald K Smith Posted September 24, 2015 Posted September 24, 2015 I'm using Skeet Reese casting and spinning rods, BPS Bionic Blades and Crankin Stick and Tourney Specials, Cabelas ZX Tournament and ProGuide, and just bought a Berkley Emotions rod. Fished all summer with various setups but haven't started weeding them out. Nothing under 7' except a UL spinning setup. Quote

Ronald, I'd be interested in your opinion comparing the Cabela's ZX and the Berkley E-Motion when you get around to it. Quote
Ronald K Smith Posted September 25, 2015 Posted September 25, 2015 I have fished the Cabelas ZX Tournament for several months. I have a frog rod 7'3" and the swimbait rod 7"9". I like them both. They both cast great and feel light in my hands. On the swimbait I have a BPS Pro Qualifier with 20 lb braid and the frog rod has a Skeet Reese Victory 701 with 50 lb braid. Planning on using the Emotions with a BPS Slinger with 50 lb braid with a alabamba rig and flipping this weekend. Quote
Jaw1 Posted September 25, 2015 Posted September 25, 2015 I own a few of the tatula rods and like them alot but for an all purpose rod in that price range my vote goes to the phenix m1 series in the 7` mh range. I use one for an all around multi purpose rod. It's the one stick that's always in the boat Quote
Super User DogBone_384 Posted September 25, 2015 Super User Posted September 25, 2015 Head out to your local tackle shops and handle as many models you're interested in. Bring your reel with you and ask if you can mount it so you can get a feel for your potential set up. Once you narrow it down to one or two rods, try the Flea Market found here and save a couple bucks. Good luck. Quote
Mwelder28 Posted October 2, 2015 Posted October 2, 2015 Check out Duckett they are nice as well Quote
