vaparrothead Posted May 9, 2007 Posted May 9, 2007 Did a search on subject and didn't find anything to help me so here's the question. I've been using a Mann's minus one crank for shallow fishing. I don't know of any other cranks that run that shallow; can anyone recommend any other shallow running cranks? Thanks, Quote
Avalonjohn44 Posted May 9, 2007 Posted May 9, 2007 The best out there, as far as I'm concerned, (and I Own and use LC and Megabass lures) is the inexpensive little Bandit 100 and Bandit Footloose cranks. There are a million colors to chose from, I have never had a problem with them running true, and their hooks are great and sharp out of the box. They are very sturdy too, and thier paint holds up very well. The only problem I've ever had with bandits is the same problem I have with Mann's. They sometimes get a scummy glue residue on their bills out of the box. This rubs off though, and is only a slight bother. The 100 series goes from0-4 feet, and the Footloose series dives only to 1 foot. There are some square lipped Bagley B-1s that work very well too, but for price, color selection, and ease of obtaining them, the Bandit is the best out there. Mann's also has a new premium version of their minus series out there, but I was not too impressed with their looks so have not tried them. I don't know if Bomber makes a very shallow bait, but I do not catch the amount of fish on similar sized bombers as I do on Bandits. Quote
vaparrothead Posted May 9, 2007 Author Posted May 9, 2007 Thanks Avalon; just the kind of good information I can always find on this site. I'll find some Bandits and give 'em a try. Quote
flyphisher # Posted May 9, 2007 Posted May 9, 2007 Shallow cranks I use the most: Norman fatboy Rapala DT3 and DT6 Ole Woody shallow runners Lucky craft flat cb's Bandit flat maxx.... Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted May 9, 2007 Super User Posted May 9, 2007 My PB was fooled by a Norman Fat Boy, bluegill pattern. The Bomber Square A is a fish magnet. I bought the Lucky Craft Rick Clunn 2.5 & 3.5 but haven't actually fished them yet. Tak won the Classic a couple of years ago fishing the Bagley BII. Quote
erice97699 Posted May 9, 2007 Posted May 9, 2007 NAILED A 6 POUND PLUS ON A LC RICK CLUNN AMERICAN SHAD YESTERDAY... LC MAKES A SSR MODEL THAT IS SUPER SHALLOW I ALSO LIKE THE FOOT LOOSE BANDIT CRANK BAITS ERIC Quote
Super User Raul Posted May 9, 2007 Super User Posted May 9, 2007 Shallow Shad Rap SubWart Bug Eye Bait XPS Shallow Crank BPS has a bunch of shallow runners in it 's line of Lazer Eye cranks. Bagleys Bs Quote
Super User FishTank Posted May 9, 2007 Super User Posted May 9, 2007 My favorite is the Moonsault SSR in Ghost Minnow. Quote
Deuceu72 Posted May 9, 2007 Posted May 9, 2007 I like the bandits as well, and also will throw a Strike King 1X......... Quote
Guest whittler Posted May 9, 2007 Posted May 9, 2007 When fishing shallow, especially shallow cover, I like wood baits that displace alot of water and no rattles. For plastic baits the Norman Fat Boy and Bomber square lip are hard to beat. For wood baits here is my favorite. Quote
logger Posted May 9, 2007 Posted May 9, 2007 Bagley Small Fry (they make 2 bream colors and crappie patterns) They make them 0-1ft, 0-4ft, Awesome baits. Cabelas has them for $6, but I found mine in a sale bin at BPS for $2.50. http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/templates/links/link.jsp?id=0037595113575a&type=product&cmCat=search&returnPage=search-results1.jsp&QueryText=bagley+small+fry&N=4887&Ntk=Products&Ntx=mode+matchall&Nty=1&Ntt=bagley+small+fry&noImage=0 Quote
Super User Munkin Posted May 10, 2007 Super User Posted May 10, 2007 0-1' Mann's baby 1- is the best hands down but that Bagelys bream like logger posted works well for lake LM. For 3-5' Bandit 100 has been my go to bait for 3 years but this year my #1 crank is that LC RC 1.5. So far this year about 75% of my fish have been caught on the LC bait. Allen Quote
mike bat Posted May 10, 2007 Posted May 10, 2007 i just picked up 4 bomber balsa b lures a few weeks back ...... they are sweet they run real shallow ,,, like a foot or two down ...... i love em and the action is sweet ,,, i wanna chomp them when i see them .... ;D Quote
Stringjam Posted May 10, 2007 Posted May 10, 2007 Sisson Slim Willie - - completely different action than you will normally see in a shallow flat-sided bait, you can almost get jerkbait-like action out of it. Nobody uses them for some reason. Catching Concepts FPC2 - - another flat-sided bait with a really crazy action. There aren't a lot of crankbaits that run less than 1' no matter what - - most of the ones listed so far in this thread will dive much deeper depending on retrieve, so if you are JUST looking for baits that you can reel at any speed and distance that run less than a foot, I would look at the Bandit 100 or other cranks with a near-vertical lip, if not, you have a lot more options. The old Rapala shallow Fat Rap with the vertical lip is a great finesse crank for shallow water - - they're discontinued though and getting harder to find, they still pop up on ebay pretty regularly though. Super User Bankbeater Posted May 10, 2007 Super User Posted May 10, 2007 Storm makes a sub-wart that runs about a foot deep. Quote
Super User MALTESE FALCON Posted May 10, 2007 Super User Posted May 10, 2007 My favorite shallow crankbaits are: shallow Shad Raps Bomber square "A" Cotton Cordell "Big O" Rattlin Raps #05 or #07 Falcon Quote
Guest Bountiful_Waters Posted May 10, 2007 Posted May 10, 2007 Bandit 100's are my search bait. I love the rootbeer color. Big selection, low price, good sharp hooks. There are a number of custom painted bandits on ebay that are quite unique if you're in to that. Quote
Anglin Posted May 10, 2007 Posted May 10, 2007 give the bomber Model B a try, i've personally had a lot of succes with both the bomber model B's and the bandit 100's Quote
The_Natural Posted May 10, 2007 Posted May 10, 2007 I throw quite a few, and my favorites are: RC 1.5 BDS 1 and 2 Moonsault CB50 and CB100 Bandit 100 Bagley B2 WEC Wobbler I'm probably forgetting a couple, but I routinely throw those. I've been hammering them on the BDS1 lately... Quote
NEBassMan Posted May 10, 2007 Posted May 10, 2007 Love the Mann's Baby 1-, but also really like the Bomber Square A. Jason Quote
Pond-Pro Posted May 12, 2007 Posted May 12, 2007 I realy like the Norman Fatboy in bluegill. Also I liked my bomber Square A's until my hooks rusted. Cajun, what cb is in the top picture? Quote
