Mike C Posted December 3, 2009 Posted December 3, 2009 Would anyone mind posting a pic of a drying rack set up? I have the BBQ spit/motor and the wood to mount it...just not sure how I can hang the lures without hooks. Thanks Mike Quote
whittler Posted December 3, 2009 Posted December 3, 2009 Here is a picture of mine, depending on which wheel used and holding fixtures it will turn up to about 48 baits at a time. Also pictured are a few of the various holding fixtures I use. Quote
BIG M Posted December 3, 2009 Posted December 3, 2009 Jon, I need you to build me a drying rack. My poor little set up only holds 6 baits. Quote
Mike C Posted December 3, 2009 Author Posted December 3, 2009 Thanks. Do you think an aligator clip would work clipped directly to the spit bar? Quote
whittler Posted December 3, 2009 Posted December 3, 2009 I think you will find it easier to have the holding fixture in your hand while painting/topcoating then putting it on the wheel, an alligator clip could be attached the the shaft however. A couple more pics of some of the various wheels and holding fixtures are included here but the combinations are endless. Most of my holder shafts are 3/8" dowell with the exception being the Exacto handles which are 5/16". Alligator clips, paper clips, different size screws and small spring clamps are all used for various baits. The wheels just slide on the square shaft for easy changing. Quote
Mike C Posted December 3, 2009 Author Posted December 3, 2009 Ahh...Now I get it man that looks like some torture chamber device...definitely the high capacity model! Thanks Quote
bnwcrankin Posted December 3, 2009 Posted December 3, 2009 Here's mine... I actually posted this last night on another forum so I just copied it and posted it for you.. I cut 2 18in rounds out of mdf. (You could use whatever you have, ply, osb, etc) Then I put them together and drilled holes in the center and several more out from the center. Then ran a dowel through the center. This one you want to leave long on both ends. The other hole's I drilled are for stiffening it up. I just ran dowel's in those holes and epoxied them in place. Then I made a frame out of 1x4's. Make sure it's wide enough to accommodate the turner. I drilled hole's at the top's of the vertical 1x4 to place bearing's in. Make sure the the dowel will fit inside the bearing's tight! Once you have your center dowel in the bearing's. Time to figure out how to mount the motor. I used a Microwave carousel motor. I had to get it away from the side so I had room for the coupling. I used 2 4in wood screw's for this. ( I'm sure there's better way's to do all of this but this has worked for me for some time now). luckily the motor had a coupling on it that fit perfectly on the shaft of the motor. The other end I had to drill out to accommodate the dowel. Then drilled a whole in the side for a set screw. After you get this far it's time for the screw hooks. I picked them up for like a buck at wal mart. I put one about ever 4 in around the circumference of the circles. Both sides. Then one side gets a rubberband and a wire hook, the other just gets a length of stiff wire bent so it will fit in the hook eye's of the baits. The rubberband is a great idea! It allows you to put different size bait's on it without changing your set up... I'm sure I left something out so if you have any question's just let me know... I got all the part's (except the motor) at Lowe's and walmart. Quote
Mike C Posted December 5, 2009 Author Posted December 5, 2009 Ok...Thanks. So the baits sit horizontal kinda like a ferris wheel Quote
bnwcrankin Posted December 5, 2009 Posted December 5, 2009 That it! When I first stared I used a 4ft dowel with hole drilled in it. then I put alligator clips in each hole. I clipped the baits on the clips then the bait's rotated end over end. Worked ok, but the new one is much better... Quote
