My builder has already placed two rods in my paws that I absolutely love... A 7'3" heavy power, fast action, built on an MHX mag bass blank, and a 6'8" medium power, extra fast action spinning rod on a Batson/Rainshadow blank. He's working on a third rod now, my "swiss army knife" bass rod....a 7' MH/F,also on an MHX mag bass blank. After that I am requesting a cranking rod. My only problem..... I don't like "traditional" moderate action cranking rods for what I do.... Which is ripping 1/2 or 3/4 oz. lipless baits out of grass, ripping 1.5 and 2.5 sized squarebills out of grass, with occasional bouncing around in some wood/rock/dock cover, and casting or long lining 5xd sized deep diving on outside weedline or sparse hard cover in 12'-14'fow. I rarely, if ever, throw 6xd's anymore, or anything else bigger than a 5xd. I want one rod to handle these tasks. I want it to be at least 7' (I am plenty accurate with a 7' in tight quarters), but less than 7'6" for ease of storage in my rod locker. After looking around the one line of blanks that caught my attention and seems to "fit the bill" of what I want is the American Tackle Bushido blanks.... Specifically their 7'2" M or MH moderate fast rods in the "popping and cranking" line. Just looking for general thoughts and/or opinions on my line of thinking here, as well as some first hand experiences with these particular blanks if anyone has any. Thanks guys.

I have a Bushido blank on hand, just not what you're looking at, so I can't say much about it, other than it looks good; very straight, nice blemish free finish, and is light in weight, and seems crisp.

If you liked the MHX, why not go with one of theirs? I recently built a crank rod for a guy using the MHX Blend, crankbait blank, 7' H-Mod-fast. Very nice finished rod, for the price. Based on your description of the applications, I'd be very tempted to give the MH version of that blank a shot.

I'm with you about the action of most "crankbait" rods. I have little or no use for a moderate action rod. Shoot, I fish DD22's on a fast action, heavy power graphite rod. Keep those mod action rods, and give me something I can yank on when working a crank.

TeamRainShadow Pro Staff of ours Keith Combs as well as a long list of other BASS Pros and FLW tour like our EGlass Crank Baits. Also they have made changes to support the Strike King Crankbaits as well!! the 1XD-10XD!!

Popping = MOD Fast action ( for popping saltwater )

CrankBait = MOD Fast Action ( for cranking and deep cranking )

Honestly they are so close you probably couldn't tell the difference. In design wise, the popping action is a bit faster, the crank bait lineup is more progressive. We have many of our customers buying both for both applications.

For what your doing, think of either an EGlass 7' rod in the M or MH crank bait. You can also take a look at our RX7 lineup for graphite crank baits as well. Seems like it is making a comeback!

A couple suggestions that will put you in that faster moderate fast zone. Not quite as slow and fast as a true cranking blank. Rainshadow Immortal popping blanks are fantastic. You would want the 4 power for what you're doing. Phenix Recon C714MH, or M1 MX72MH. Both of these are a slower fast and make great treble hook rods. If you don't want the typical slow parabolic crankbait blank I'd stay away from the likes of Croix moderate, RX7 crankbait, and Mhx crankbait blend. Just my 2 cents. Good luck

Interesting that you mentioned the Phenix M1 7'2" MH, that's the exact blank my builder suggested for what I want to do, plus he said it is an excellent finesse casting rod for bottom contact stuff as well. He has a rod he built for himself on that blank and pretty much does what I am thinking about doing with it.

Phenix makes nice blanks. Probably my favorite across the board. I doubt you'd be disappointed.

I've had luck with the MHX Mod-Fast cranking blanks for applications like yours and have heard great things about the Bushido crankbait blanks. Pheonix makes good blanks and if your builder hasn't steered you wrong yet, why not go with his recommendation?
