The reason your frog broke off during that backlash is because braid has 0 stretch.

This means that when all that sudden pressure is put on the line, something has to give, wich would be the weak point in your line.

The weak point could have been a place in your line, or the knot.

You have to really whip that frog to get it to snap the braid. A hollow body frog doesn't weigh that much.

The "BigBill" knot...

I lost $30 worth of new lures in 15 minutes. I was in a rush to fish. My casting was way off. Everything was hanging in the trees. This was twenty years ago. We bought a lot for $30. Funny I been good ever since but I did tripple loop my knot. Some days it happens.

I have never had a issue with a SDJ and braid. And if it doesn't work well with braid thays news to me. His line stopped mod cast and it snapped the braid is all.

I agree with this post. Reading carefully  to what happened to the OP, the majority is quick to jump on the knot. I am sure if we were to find that frog, the knot will be in place and the line snapped elsewhere. Bad knots slip, they don't "snap"

x3.

any knot and even 80lb braid will snap during a backlash.  adjust ur reel and equally important is to follow through with ur cast.  if you abruptly stop ur rod/cast short u will backlash every time. make sure to cast thru to finish pointing ur rod tip at 12 o'clock ie ur target.  casting from 6pm and stopping at 2pm will cause that snap will all hate
