My and my wife's personal builds are all on hi mod blanks. For customers, it depends what they want and what their budget is.

Bang for the buck wise I reserve the highest level blanks for finesse rods usually spinning for myself. Also, "high" modulus is subjective and there are other aspects involved in building good blanks.

I build on both, but tend to go hi-mod when I can.  I think I am most likely to get the performance I'm looking for by starting with a hi-mod blank.  There are some very good hi-mod blanks out there that don't break the bank.  How you build the rod will have a significant effect on its performance.  I have an 7 foot two piece RX 7 Rainshadow med power spin popping blank, that with micros/Fuji K method, built into  a rod that feels very good, has become one of my go-to rods for not only cranks, but also finesse in a pinch and hard twitching lighter husky jerks.  If I didn't know better, I would think it was RX8.  The Rainshadow Revelations and AT Bushidos are really great blanks for a less-than-premium price.

I use high modulus blanks where sensitivity is important - worms, jigs, dropshots, etc.  For other presentations, a lower modulus graphite may serve just as well or better

I haven't built enough to be able to do a hi mod blank but I just ordered the supplys for two vertical jigging rods one st.croix blank and one Rainshadow Revelation to test the difference between a couple brands. All the other rods i've built so far have been for moving baits so I didn't feel the need to use the hi-mod. I need to build a few bass jig rods for next year that will for sure be hi mod blanks.

Both! I also use Intermediate as well. Intermediate offers the best of both worlds.

What would your opinions be on the RX7 blank for a toad/frog rod?

The ISF904 to be specific?

Hard to beat a RX7 for price and durability.  They are almost bulletproof.

A little heavy compared to others. But, I would think it would

be a great blank for a toad rod. Should have a moderate fast tip.

Please let us know when you do.. We would love to hear your feedback.. Both good and bad. ;) FYI, our VP of Engineering Mike Thorson was the head of product for St Croix a few years ago.

The IFS904 is a great rod. We have a lot of great success stories on both the IFS904 and IFS906

We get a total of 0 back in the past 3 years. Very hard to beat.

Isn't a toad rod supposed to be hefty? Just wondering "heavy compared to others statement".. Not bad, just wondering.. We always want to take feedback good or bad to heart and do the best we can to provide the best products! :)

BTW, Typically heavy = strong ( I guess that is why we haven't gotten anything back broken )

No need for the highest modulus blank for that application. The rx7 is a good choice.

Thanks DVT! :)

I was comparing the weight to an eternity2 and the immortal.  I should have been more specific. The RX7 is the blank I'm most interested in. I sent you a pm earlier, I'm waiting for a price.

Jannsnetcraft has the blank for $84.59 in stock .

You do know that that blank has a moderate fast action , to me , not what I would want in a toad rod , because that rod is a flipping rod , you really want a fast action rod for toads , moderate action rods are for sweeping hooksets ...

Here are 3 of our Flipping rods. It really depends on what you are seeking. Most customers seek for the heavier power, these are considered MH. The actions is what most people are seeking for:

1. IFS904

2. REVC76MH

3. IMMC76MH

Hope this helps!!
