My local tackle stores have these hooks in stock for wacky rigging soft plastic stick worms (i.e. Senkos & Yum Dingers ) :

* Owner Wacky Hook

* Owner SSW Needle Point Drop Shot Hook (new !)

* Owner Mosquito Hook

* Gamakatsu Finesse Wide Gap

* Gamakatsu Octopus Hook

* Gamakatsu Drop Shot / Split Shot Hook

Which hook - and especially the size (i.e. #1 , 1/0 , 2/0, 3/0) do you use for wacky rigging soft plastic stick worms ?

Thanks in advance for your replies !

The Gammy Wide Gap Finesse in a 1/0 would get my vote but I don't use any of those hooks anymore.

I use the Owner Wacky Hooks with the weedguards.  Sharp little buggers they are.  Haven't lost a fish on them yet.

It would help to note - I want to rig the hook  straight through the middle at 90 degrees to the worm (i.e. no o-ring , cable tie , etc. )

Owner wacky hooks are the best wacky hook - perfect design , super sharp , and definitely strong ( actually caught a 12 lb. catfish on when while wacky rigged fishing a 5'' stick bait , hook held up perfectly !!! ) as previous posts stated , i also use a 1/0 hook for 5'' stick baits ...

Thanks for the replies - The Owner wacky rig (green) hook was on my short list along with the do-everthing Gammi Octopus hook .

I do like the fact that the Owner wacky hook has that little knook at the base of the hook which would appear to hold a 5" stick bait in place better .

I like the Falcon K-wacky weedless hooks with the mouse trap style weed guard.   I use the 1/16 oz weighted ones more often than the unweighted ones.  Falcon calls the style I like 3/0 but I think that is a little small compared to other companies 3/0 size.  These days I generally use criss crossed o rings, so the hook is positioned 90 degrees of the senko rather than in line as is common with just one o ring.

I fish wacky a lot, and swear by the gammy octopus hooks. They are sharp and better yet stay sharp. Very little lost fish.

I use Gamakatsu Octopus hooks when I want the strongest hook for big fish in heavy cover and Owner Mosquito hooks when I can get by with slightly weaker for better hook penetration. They are shaped the same.

I use 2/0 for finesse worm, 3/0 for Trick worms, and 4/0 for Senkos.

My avatar is the 3/0 Gammy with a Trick worm.

Owner Mutu Light is what I use most of the times for wacky rigging.

  I use the mustad w37754r weedless hook.  Very satisfied with hookups.  Always through top of mouth just pull and reel [circle type hook]  Came highly recommended on this website.  Read about them here a few years back and ordered them.  Bps does not sell them.  I order them from cabelas or netcraft.  Can't believe this one has not been mentioned in this thread as it has been in many previous threads?  I use the 1/0 as they seem to be quite large compared to the vmc,s I used before?

What this man says.. I believe he invented the trick worm rigging style & perfected it. I use Owner ssw or mosquito & have been pleased.

1/0 to 3/0

I bolded what I use. I've used the Owner hooks, they're good

hooks as well, but the ones with "beaks" -- in my experience--

don't hook up as well.

As well, I go as low as a #4 hook when I'm gunning for anything.

I've gone to the Gamakatsu Octopus Circle hooks in size 1 & 1/0 for 4" & 5" Senkos. I have had good results with Owner hooks as well.

I prefer to rig a wacky hook perpendicular to the length of the worm too. To avoid filing for bankruptcy due to replenishing my supply of Senkos, I do not hook through the Senko: I use a Wacky Saddle. If you're not familiar with this nifty double O ring device, Google Wacky Saddle Kit for details.

The photo below shows the wacky rigging I was using a few seasons back:

The Wacky saddle is on the left. The jig comes from the Do-It mold. For a weighted wacky presentation next year, I'll be trying the Eco Pro Tungsten setup, a clever, compact setup that permits hook alignment perpendicular to the length of the bait.

Well, I think I've wandered off topic far enough . . .

I don't disagree with the hook choices - just the hook sizes : * Again , I want to wacky rig straight through the worm at a 90 degree angle .

* Regarding the Owner non - weedless wacky in a 1/0 size : It looks like it could work , but border line small going through a 5" stick bait  - I will try a 2/0 in the Owner as well just to compare.

* Same thing with a Gammi Octopus hook in 1/0 size : it looks like it could work , but border line small going through a 5" stick bait  - I will try a 2/0 Gammi Octopus hook as well just to compare . A Gammi Octopus  4/0 hook going through a 5" stick bait at a 90 degree angle would be insanely large in my opinion !

Darren : Good replies as usual ... I have heard similar comments before regarding curved "beak" hook tips resulting in either rolled hooks or lower % hooksets . I don't have enough experience with the Owner Wacky or Mosquito style hooks -but may give them a try any way .

I like the Gamakatsu Finesse Widegap, I feel like a "beak" like Darren mentioned hurts my hookup ratio.

Wayne P. - I had mistakingly compared against Octopus circle hooks ... Gammi 2/0 ~ 4/0 Octopus hooks would definately work .
