Balshy Fishing Posted September 12, 2015 Posted September 12, 2015 After receiving my latest purchase, a Spinning 6'9 Abu Garcia Veritas 2.0 Medium Light/Fast, I have a dilemma as far line. I'm assuming I should only be throwing weightless senkos, ned rig and wacky rigged worms with this? I can throw lures from 1/8-1/2 with line of 6-10#'s. I have 6# mono, 10# mono, 12# fluoro, 15# braid & 30# braid. Any help?! Quote
Super User Big Bait Fishing Posted September 12, 2015 Super User Posted September 12, 2015 15 lb. braid sounds like your winner ... 1 Quote
Balshy Fishing Posted September 12, 2015 Author Posted September 12, 2015 Okay, perfect. Are you recommending a braid to the 6# mono? Quote
Smokinal Posted September 12, 2015 Posted September 12, 2015 I, too, would use the braid. I'd put a leader of 10lb fluoro on it but that's the beauty of braid as a main line; you can put whatever lb leader you want on it for different applications. Very versitile. 1 Quote
Balshy Fishing Posted September 12, 2015 Author Posted September 12, 2015 Just put on some 15# PowerPro with 6# Sufix. I'm excited to see what I can do with this! What else can I throw other than weightless/wacky senkos and the ned rig with this rod? Quote
Weld's Largemouth Posted September 12, 2015 Posted September 12, 2015 15 lb braid and you are not limited to those lures. You can throw anything as long as it isnt too heavy like over .6 oz Throw plastics, spinnerbaits, crankbaits anything u want Quote
d-camarena Posted September 12, 2015 Posted September 12, 2015 15lb braid with a 6# leader and your set. My exact finesse setup Quote
poisonokie Posted September 12, 2015 Posted September 12, 2015 you'll be able to launch that Senko for days. It weighs 3/8 oz, right in that rod's sweet spot. Quote

poisonokie Posted September 12, 2015 Posted September 12, 2015 don't know what happened there, but that setup is perfect for any weightless plastic, double fluke rigs, dropshotting, shakey heads, finesse jigs, smaller jerkbaits, smaller cranks, small spinnerbaits, spybaits, really anything finesse oriented. 2 Quote

Absolutely. Very similar specs to the main combo I use for many of those things, especially weightless plastics, shakey heads, and mojo/split-shot rigs. Quote
Balshy Fishing Posted September 14, 2015 Author Posted September 14, 2015 Thanks everybody. Would a carolina rig be alright with this rod? I ended up putting on 15# PowerPro with a 6# Mono leader.... Quote
poisonokie Posted September 14, 2015 Posted September 14, 2015 no, a Carolina rig requires a heavy rod, preferably longer to take up as much slack as possible before making a sweeping hookset through a 1 oz sinker and 3-6 ft of leader. You can throw mojos, which is sort of a finesse carolina rig, but its not the same thing. Quote
Super User MIbassyaker Posted September 14, 2015 Super User Posted September 14, 2015 Carolina: Meh. No big loss. You'd probably get more out of a mojo/finesse carolina/split-shot rig anyway. Quote
Super User Jrob78 Posted September 14, 2015 Super User Posted September 14, 2015 If by Carolina rig you mean split shot rig, then yes. 1 Quote
Super User K_Mac Posted September 14, 2015 Super User Posted September 14, 2015 If by Carolina rig you mean split shot rig, then yes. C-Rigging does not require a heavy weight. You could go with a 1/4 oz weight on your rig without any problem. You will have to slow down to keep contact with the bottom though. Quote

I agree with you. Most of the time when I C- rig it is with a baitcaster and a 7'2" heavy rod, with at least a 3/4 ounce weight. In crystal clear water (think Bull Shoals) a spinning outfit has saved the day a few times. Quote
