I've recently got into throwing bass lures to catch huge largemouth bass. My hometown lake dworshak reservoir in idaho has produced a nine pound 14 ounce small mouth and I witness multiple 6,7,pounders and a few 8 pounders come out of there do you think throwing the hudelson 6 inch Deluxe swimbait is too big for fish 7,8,9,10 + pounds. I seriously think there a record in there specially in the spawn. Like Ive seen one 8 pound in the middle of summer

Hello and Welcome to Bass Resource ~

Dworshak is reportedly full of Kokanee ~ if the Hudd matches what they're eating might be good.

I took a  6+ lb smallie on a Lucky Craft 128, which is a 5 inch deep bodied jerkbait.

So, there's that.

Thank you its great being here yeah the hudelson do make that pattern in there swimbaits I was like 85% confident in a lure that big cuz it's alot of bait for a smallmouth cuz of its huge body. But then again if I was a six inch kokanee or trout swimming through a pack of 4 and 5 pounders it does seem a little suicidal thank you for your input I feel very confident in throwing a bait that big for that big of a fish now

I've caught lots of 1-2 pound smallmouth on a 7" glide bait. Main issue with a 6" Hudd will be them getting it in their mouths well enough to get a hook in them but the Cali guys catch monster spots on 8" Hudds so I say go for it.

This smallie didn't weigh much but he was  23" and ate an S-Waver 168. Once in a lifetime fish and my buddy took an awful pic haha I'll never let him live it down

People will occasionally catch them on musky baits up here, so there's no doubt a big girl would go for a big bass bait.

At least you got a pic rather than just a story. That's one heck of a fish

Food for thought, I always catch 5lb+ SMB on nothing bigger then a 4" soft plastic in a drop shot. As a matter of fact the 7lb 3oz beauty in my avatar was caught on a dreamshot in dirt color.

I have that dream every other night. Out here in my corner of S.E. Penna. it's not gonna happen but I'll keep trying. My biggest smallies have come off a Guido Bug craw. I still have and use them but they are a bait of the past and impossible to get anymore.

We throw 6+ inch baits for smallies up here all the time.  2-3 pounders will eat them, so do the giants

Fish with 6" swimbaits here in idaho for smallmouth all the time. 1-2 pounders nail them too
