Super User kickerfish1 Posted September 12, 2015 Super User Posted September 12, 2015 I like those and I am not a SC fan. Well done on the builds and reel pairings! Quote
Super User S Hovanec Posted September 12, 2015 Super User Posted September 12, 2015 I like those and I ak not a SC fan. Well done on the builds and reel pairings! Thank you. I have a SCV on the bench now that I'm pairing with a TwinPower. I'll snap some pics when its done. Hope to be fishing it next week. Don't have a pic of it, but I have a SCV + Stradic Mg that's pretty sharp too. That one will soon be my wife's. Will be keeping the Mg for something else and getting her a new JDM Stradic. Quote
Super User bigbill Posted September 12, 2015 Super User Posted September 12, 2015 Rod color vs reel color vs line color vs bait color do I have that correct? Now factor in the color of the fish lol The women fisherman have nothing to do with this. It's a guy thing. I need to look for my Godzilla baitcaster need to post pics. Quote

Super User roadwarrior Posted September 12, 2015 Super User Posted September 12, 2015 I've always said that life's too short to fish with ugly equipment. I go to great lengths to match rods to reels and reels to rods. Just as important as performance for me. 1 Quote
stkbassn Posted September 12, 2015 Posted September 12, 2015 I'm starting to and I hate myself for it 1 Quote
Super User Goose52 Posted September 12, 2015 Super User Posted September 12, 2015 You laugh. Green rod, green line, green spindle on the reel. Green fly. ...and just perfect for catching some green bass... 3 Quote
Super User S Hovanec Posted September 12, 2015 Super User Posted September 12, 2015 ...and just perfect for catching some green bass... Lil heavy for bass. 11wt. Musky/pike/salmon. 2 of those are green tho! Quote
Super User rippin-lips Posted September 12, 2015 Super User Posted September 12, 2015 If I'm spending money on a combo they're gonna look good together. Then you have to get a carbon handle for it, and some new knobs possibly. Of course color match an SV spool to it all. Add a few dress up parts from Hedgehog Studios and you are set. Balance and function come first, but with all of the options available it's pretty hard not to accomplish that and make it look good at the same time. 1 Quote
Super User K_Mac Posted September 12, 2015 Super User Posted September 12, 2015 As you can see, MassBass you are in good company. I am in the other camp: I don't care at all about aesthetics. How it performs is important, I just don't care if colors match! You guys have perrty stuff though! 1 Quote
EvanT123 Posted September 12, 2015 Posted September 12, 2015 It's nice when it happens but not a big priority for me. One of my favorite combos is white reel, yellow line, green blank, silver guides and light blue tape holding the reel on. Pretty dang ugly but oh so nice in the hand. Quote
Super User flyfisher Posted September 12, 2015 Super User Posted September 12, 2015 i have never once considered color of my combo when making a purchasing decision. Now if i was building my own rods I may consider it as i want something that i think looks good but function is light years ahead of how it looks for me. Quote

Super User .ghoti. Posted September 13, 2015 Super User Posted September 13, 2015 I match my rods and reels by weight and application. AnSS SV, PX-R, and an assortment of Alphas get paired with my lightest power rods, for used with the lightest baits and line. A few Zillions and an Abu Record go with my heaviest power rods for the heaviest baits and line. A pair of TD-Zs and a flock of Fuegos fit in between. Within each subdivision, I go with what reel feels good with which rod. What they look like together has nothing to do with it. I simply don't care. 1 Quote
BassThumb Posted September 14, 2015 Posted September 14, 2015 The fish don't seem to care, so why should I? Function over fashion. Quote
IAY Posted September 14, 2015 Posted September 14, 2015 The fish don't seem to care, so why should I? Function over fashion. Do you have same expectation of things as a fish does? Quote
Super User buzzed bait Posted September 14, 2015 Super User Posted September 14, 2015 i asked this same question a while back and was actually surprised at the number or people who do coordinate their combos! http://www.bassresource.com/bass-fishing-forums/topic/149652-does-it-really-matter-to-you/ Quote
Super User Choporoz Posted September 14, 2015 Super User Posted September 14, 2015 Short of something in a Barbie motif...or perhaps a Barney purple, I couldn't care any less than I do now. 1 Quote
Super User K_Mac Posted September 14, 2015 Super User Posted September 14, 2015 Short of something in a Barbie motif...or perhaps a Barney purple, I couldn't care any less than I do now. Give me a Barbie motif Metanium/NRX combo and I will fish it without reservation! 1 Quote

Yeah, man, I've been eyeing one of those complete sets for a while now. I think the dark blue with the orange 6 pt drag star to match that sv spool would be sweet. Of course, once you do that, you could just about buy a new reel, but oh well. Quote

Yeah, they look a bit wild. I wouldn't purchase a yellow, or red rod though either. I dislike those colors. Even white rods aren't up there. Quote
Global Moderator Mike L Posted September 15, 2015 Global Moderator Posted September 15, 2015 Couldn't care less... We got enough to think/worry about while on the water. Mike 1 Quote
JeziHogg Posted September 15, 2015 Posted September 15, 2015 As long as the reel isn't Black with red then I'm happy. Quote
