When I am putting together a combo I really am concerned with it matching and looking cool. My best looking combo Is a silver/grey quantum exo pt matched with a silver daiwa. Its really sharp looking. My carp combo I have been using is a black/red ambassaduer and a black/red ugly stick. Black/red seems like a common color theme on rods and reels. White rods got real popular. The new gloomis rod is black with bright green designs, what reel would match with that bright green color? I am looking at getting a shimano cardiff during the off season, which is silver with gold. Im having a hard time finding a rod that would go with it, thats what made me think to start this thread.

Take a look at the new Lews Mach1 for the gloomis. Another option would be to pick another reel and add some parts from hedgehog to match the rod. Drag star and spool tension knob should be enough and shouldn't be too spendy

I like when my combo matches, bit in the end it doesn't always work out that way. I have a veracity paired with a chronarch ci4 amd it looks sharp. Also a curado E on a previous model loomis with the gold accents, I'm the sun. The blank it pretty close to matching the green. If you really care about matching, Hawg Tech will sell you some pieces that are anodized to match the accents of the rod. They also sell after market hook keepers on different colors you can help match the reel. I think a Veritas would look good with that reel it's white with a little silver, but no gold.

I've always said that life's too short to fish with ugly equipment. I go to great lengths to match rods to reels and reels to rods.

One thing about it, most tackle does jive together pretty well. That's one reason why you don't see any more green curados. God, what were they thinking?

that said, if tatula reels were fuscia pink and rods were olive green, I'd still fish the heck out of em.

My $14 Shakespeare green baitcaster reel matched my green Godzilla rod.

Really. Does it matter to me now I could careless. As long as the setup balances and functions I'm good.

God only knows what I fished with as a kid.

take the combo in my profile pic, for instance. A brown Silaflex with that pewter blue Lexa? Hideous. It got the job done and then some until I moved on to better things that just happened to be more esthetically acceptable.

Are you talking about the e6x rods?

I'm apparently the contrarian in the thread as aesthetics is far from my mind when I'm putting together a combo.

Little too fetishist for me...

They look great on the Green NRX or GLX rods, Orichi XX rods with green thread wraps, and the Champion Extremes. I would post a photo but 50E is in for service.

Every combo should be black and silver.

That would make this much easier.

I like to pretend I'm mainly interested in being practical, but it bothers me waaaayy more than it should when rod and reel colors clash.

I'm one of those guy's that don't care.As long as it works great i'm fine with it.Having the colors match is not going to make the fish bite so it don't matter to me.Just like bigbill.....I fished with so much junk as a kid i'm just happy having something that works good.

i don't like colored rods , i Citri-strip the blank down to it's natural graphite . my reels i like black to match the rod . i have a Pflueger Patriarch Magnesium spinning reel that is dark blue but it blends well with the custom Phenix rod i have it matched to. so yes , i like them color matched ....

Actually there's some green on a rod I just got that I never noticed in the pictures. It's a nice emerald green like that nrx in between the rod specs and first guide. The reel I have on it is metallic silver so it looks pretty nice.

Yes, I do. I was bummed when the Johnny Morris nameplate fell off my favorite reel. It still works just as well, but seems lower quality now.

I dont look at matching colors but i always match brands on reels and rods and most of the time they end up matching in color. For example my crucial rod matches the symetre on it perfectly and my zodias rods match my ci4+ stradic perfect too

I picked one combo last winter based upon aesthetics. It was a team daiawa rod and a HD Quantum Escalade Baitcaster reel. My best looking combo with black and blue on both. Worst d**n combo I have. It sits in the rod locker the majority of the time. Lesson learned for me, no more caring about looks.

Here are a few new additions. Color coordinated. Once I have more time and get everything back I will post a fully color coordinated lineup. Something for the Shimano and Daiwa guys. Colors match but also feature classic rods or reels on modern rods or reels.

A few new reels. Bought the TDZ 100m used but the Alphas SV and Exscence DC new. Both of the new reels arrived today. Hoping to try them soon. Spooled them up with line now to add "fish slime" And for all the color coordinators out there everything matches!
