When rigging a dropshot hook with FC which knot do you prefer.

I've always heard palomar, but have read recently that it's not the best knot for the application as it can break at the hook (actually saw just that last weekend). I like the SDJ knot and could probably extend tag end long enough for leader.

I've also got swivel hooks I like to use but sometimes it's just quicker to tie one knot rather than two.

I've used the Palomar on six pound test fluorocarbon line with no problems.  The tag end should be passed down through the eye so that it holds the hook in the proper attitude.  Leave a long enough tail to allow for plenty of adjustment on the drop shot weight.

Palomar passed through the hook eye after you tie the knot or I use a Palomar with a hook with a swivel on the hook specific for drop shotting. For everything else I tie the uni knot

With fluorocarbon I no longer tie a palomar.  I tied it for years with "no problems" and once I started tying a san diego jam my line somehow became stronger haha.  For a dropshot with fluorocarbon I now tie a San Diego Jam knot and just keep a longer leader then run the line back down through the hook eye.  Even with a great palomar tied well the line that is strong isn't as strong as it is with a great san diego jam.  The SDJ knot takes me a bit longer but I prefer the strength myself.

What rods are you guys using for drop shots?

I use 2 different Shimano Crucials, the 7'2" M/XF and 7'1" ML/F.

I use the palomar with tag pulled through once more at the end to make the hook point stand up.

I settled on AG Vendetta 7' MF.

I'm using a LTB Dropshot spinning with a 1000 ci4+. The knots I use are improved clinch knots because of the hooks I use (VMC Spinshots)

I shouldn't have said "I settled"....I just meant that I tried about 7 different spinning rods.  The Vendetta is awesome for drop shotting.

I use a palomar knot for both traditional finesse style drop shot fishing and for "bubba shot" fishing as well.

Palomar knot for me. Wetting the knot very well and cinching it down from the TAG end will do well to decrease and issues you may have with knot weakening...

Palomar works fine for me and I have caught some big fish using it. Last DS pig I caught destroyed the hook but no issues with 7# sniper or the knot. I use a Dobyns 692 ML rod with a Symetre reel.

Thanks fellas. I figure I'll keep using my spin hook with sdj but if I'm in a jam and don't have any left I'll probably tie palomar.

Btw I use ML xf 7'1" tatula

Ran out of spin hooks today and had to resort to the palomar. No problems hauling fish over and around timber.

I haven't used a non spinshot hook on a long time but I always used a palomar prior to using spin shots. That was back when I actualy tied palomar knot though. Now I would probably try to find a different knot as I am not a fan of palomars. The spinshot are the deal though. They have that weird bend on them and when I hook fish it is realy hard to get the hook out.
