I'm picking up a new reel tonight and gotta pick between two of them: Shimano Caenan $89.00 OR Lews Speed Spool LFS $99.00 My goal for this reel will be to cast 1/4oz beetle spins on a 6'6" Med action rod using 12lb mono.

What one should be the better choice?

Thanks

The Lews is by far the better reel and it isn't close. The Caenan is a graphite frame while the Lews speed spool is aluminum and that alone is worth the price. The only Speed Spool to stay away from is the laser speed spools, those are graphite framed also but normallt run $79.99.

i have the Tournament Lite that has a graphite frame and it has no flex , and is an absolute joy to fish . research the reel you are interested in and read reviews , don't let frame material deter you ...

oh by the way , i would pick a Lew's reel any day over a shimano ,

customer service dictates that ...........

Shimano guy here. Get the Speed Spool.

IF you're looking to spend a bit more, get the Citica I on an auction site. I think it's worth an extra 15-20 bucks.

i'm a fan of both shimano and lew's, but were it my money i would buy the lew's 100:1 over the caenan.  I had a caenan and did not like it, gave it to a young kid in the neighborhood after just a couple of outings.

Step up to the curado or TP range lol, then you have a debate on your hands that I couldn't even decide. So I have both

Had the curado didn't care for it and the gear ratio TP I wanted wasn't instock. So now I have 2) Citica's 1) Caenan and 1) Speed Spool LFS. The Caenan I have has been a great reel but I've only used it with 1/2oz or more so I wasn't sure how it would compare to the speed spool.

You could always go higher end or dare I say try a JDM reel.  :eyebrows:

I love my Chronarch Es, 50MGs and CI4s.

I now have 2-TP, 3 curado I, bb1 pro, and a bb2. I'm still torn on what brand I prefer

I wouldn't mind going higher end but I have a aluminum boat with no carpet so my reels get scratched up pretty good. My goal from this point forward is to keep my rod and reel combos to around $200.00.

BTW I made a few cast with the Speed Spool today and must say I really like it a lot.
