I recently got a great deal on a Sol with a ton of modifications and absolutely love it.  My question is; Where can I purchase the gear and handle upgrades?  I like the swept star drag and 90mm handle and the gearing is so smooth, I have to check that the drag isn't completely backed off when I first pick it up.  Some may feel investing cash into mods on this reel a bit of a waste, but I'm not one.  Thanks.

Handle upgrades can be purchased anywhere. You can buy a swept drag star and swept handle from the Tatula or new Zillion TWS. Both should be under $50 combined.

As far as gears to you can get the 6.8:1 years from a pixy type r. They are just under $40.

You can probably order directly from Daiwa or from Gary at the Tackletrap. He could also verify fitment. I guess you could also ask the person you bought the reel from where they got the upgrades for it as well.

There are a handful of different companies that offer a swept carbon handle. There are also a few stock options as well. It just depends on the length you want. As for drag stars there are a few choices. The sol is a small reel and the tatula star is kinda large. A pxr or steez drag star is smaller and would look good on it. The tackle trap is great to deal with. For the gear swap you'll need the main and pinion gear as a set. If you post a pic I can tell you what drag star is on it and maybe the handle too. Any questions let me know.

Yup....talk to them boys at The Tackle Trap (Gary or Brian).  They can hook you up with everything you want for that reel.  They are great to deal with and run an "on the ball" business!  They are my 1st stop for my reel needs.

Mods to any reel you use that make it better for you are never a waste!  I have stuck a lot of money into my Fuego's and TD-Z's and have no regrets!  The Sol is always going to be a reel worth having!

Thanks everyone. Looks like the mods I want to do I'll be able to afford for my other two reels. Another wintertime project, if I can wait that long.
