Bbz-1 Rat Question

Hi

I would like to give the BBZ-1 Rat a try, I have a few of the LiveTarget Feild Mouse, and the Bass in my area love em. This may be the wrong section, but I was wondering if a Mojo Bass Frog n Slop 7' H F would be enough rod to handle this bait? I already have Frog n Slop Rod and if I can get away with using it for a BBZ Rat I would rather use hat, then have to buy a Swimbait rod.

The BBZ-1 rat weighs 2.5 oz, a MH swimbait rods works OK, not sure about a frog rod.

They have smaller versions coming out soon, you might wait for one of those if you don't want to buy a new rod.

That Mojo Slop N Frog rod is a pool cue, I used to use one when I first started throwing swimbaits. It'll handle that rat just fine but if you're going to get serious about it you'll want to look into something else.

Thanks, I will try one, I saw a video with the BBZ-1 Designer and he recommended a TFO 7'3" H, I know they are very different rods, but the numbers are very similar.

That's nonse on the TFO rod. I am sure it is a fine rod but I guarantee there is no real reason for that rod specifically. Other then they are probably a sponsor. There are plenty of pretty inexpensive rods that are very good rods you can use. I also want to say the rod they recommend for throwing the hudd gill is the hudd rod. It is designed for throwing 8" hudds and starts at 3oz and goes to like 8 I think. The hudd gill weighs something like 1.25oz so tell me how that can possibly be the best rod to use. Just saying.

Ya I throw the huddgill with my flipping stick and it slings it well .. I have no desire to throw it on my swimbait rod.. and no reason

That said.. the 2.5oz rat on a frog rod is kinda of stretchin it.. you may end up damaging the rod over time

If it wasn't a wake bait you would be alright. It will make a lot of drag and really put a load on the rod. If it was like a punker or something the weight doesn't even matter and they have no resistance. I throw 8" punkers at 3.5 oz on a GLX flipping stick rated up to 1.5 oz I think. It's a stout rod though. All it takes is a easy lob to bomb it plenty far. No need to cast like your swinging for the fences.

Thanks for the replies, I have some of the smaller Rats on preorder, I will probably just wait for them to be released. I got some spare money burnin a hole in my pocket, and I am going to be in a nice house on an excellent SM and LM lake for 9 days. I was looking at the MS Slammer 7" which is 1 3/4oz maybe that will work better with a MB 7' H, like bluebasser86 said it is a pool que, I use it for Strike King 8.0 SB lures all the time, and it feels like it could handle allot more.

I throw the Spro Rat on a 7'11" Heavy Veritas.   And that rat is still a load.   I can't imagine throwing it on something smaller and still having good control for accurate casts.

i second that that St.Croix  rod will handle that bait no problem , i throw mine on a Rainshadow XMB 944.5 which is rated up to 1 1/8 oz. and imagine that the mojo is stouter than my rod !!

Get a 9 over a 7 trust that. Same with a slammer. The 7's work but the 9's in both are better.
