Super User bigbill Posted September 6, 2015 Super User Posted September 6, 2015 Well after having prostate cancer the PSA is "0" yup zero I been told. My spinal stenosis isn't treatable(no operation), my golf ball sized kidney stone is inoperable, (bad risk), the steroid injections in my L3, L4 & L5 discs are working out. But I have this weird pulling muscle tention that's so bad I can hardly walk. I have the belt/support for my hiatal hernia but I haven't been wearing it. Stupid me. I put the belt on the pulling muscle pain is totally gone . I can go fishing now. I can walk again. My point is, Get your prostate checked it's a blood test. Get your kidneys checked for stones. Any back problems get it checked. Wear your supports when required. When your young take care of yourself at any age. I found out there's no big "S" on my blue tee shirt(SUPERMAN). I thought I was. See a doctor for a checkup at least once a year. Take care of yourself. Most of this stuff is a silent killer. That's aches and pains isn't from old age sometimes. That cancer took 60lbs off of me. I was 390lbs of tough guy. Thank god I had the weight to lose. Now lookout world I have a new lease on life. Look out bass I'm back. I'm not perfect but I can cast a line. Please take care of your health. Your family needs you. 1 Quote
papajoe222 Posted September 6, 2015 Posted September 6, 2015 The wife recently had surgery to repair her hiatal hernia as her entire stomach was above her diaphram. Scary when you think about it. I was never one to go to the Dr. for every ache and pain, but ignoring them isn't the answer. I lost a good friend that ignored lower bowel discomfort only to find out too late that it was cancer that could have been successfully addressed if he had only seen a doctor early on. We only have one body and all too often, like so many other things, we take it for granted. Quote
Catch 22 Posted September 7, 2015 Posted September 7, 2015 Hiatal Hernias are fairly common with lots of people sporting them. I`ve had one for 30 years with no Dr`s showing much concern about it. The other things mentioned should be checked on a regular basis. My wife of 49 yrs was just had surgery for colon cancer. Believe me its a life changer. She has the least aggressive type cancer and hopefully kemo will work in her/our favor. C22 Quote
NotnatsSamoht Posted September 7, 2015 Posted September 7, 2015 Iv had herniated discs around l4, and l5 since I was 25 years old, steroid injections only ease the sciatica, back is still horrible, I'm not allowed heavy lifting or I'll need surgery next time. You never realise how often you have to lift things until you can't anymore. I have another Dr appointment next week. I'll ask for checkups on other things just to make sure. Great advice. Quote
Preytorien Posted September 9, 2015 Posted September 9, 2015 I'll admit I'm not "too manly" to get my yearly physical. I tell the doc....go ahead and just plan to check everything. Full physical, CBC, Lipid panel, testicular exam.....the whole nine yards. I don't see it as too much of a hassle to allow me to continue to watch my daughter to grow up, come fishing with me, and ride bikes with daddy. It takes maybe an hour at the dr office guys....do it once a year, insurance even covers it Quote
Super User bigbill Posted September 9, 2015 Author Super User Posted September 9, 2015 Stay on top of your health. In the past I skipped doctor appointments. Even the one to the doctor for prostate cancer. My regular doctor screamed at me I had to go asap. He didn't say cancer. It didn't matter either way at the time. But there was a halftime show in my life prostate cancer was performing. It lost now it's the 3rd quarter of my life. After a few days of wearing the support belt for the hernia I can stand and walk again. The pulling pain is gone. Im exercising soon. There was a 17yo boy going for radiation for prostate cancer. It knows no age, race or color. Quote
