BDfishing Posted September 6, 2015 Posted September 6, 2015 Any mods I make to it, the thread just doesn't come off it smooth, both spools spin, hard to get correct tension on & on. Can u post some pics of yours, maybe I can get a few ideas to mod mine Quote
Super User .ghoti. Posted September 6, 2015 Super User Posted September 6, 2015 I'm just guessing, but it sounds like the threaded rod, or rods, are spinning. Take that thing apart, all the way, and put a lock washer between the nuts and the mount. You need to make sure the rod does not spin. I have two tensioning devices on my wrapper. One of them is identical to your two. It had the same problem, and the lock washer fixed it. 1 Quote
BDfishing Posted September 6, 2015 Author Posted September 6, 2015 There where holes already in it to do this, I also ordered 2 independent tensioners to install Quote

BDfishing Posted September 7, 2015 Author Posted September 7, 2015 Anyone know if the pacbay 2 or 4 thread holder will fit the aluminum on the crb, here is a pic of the bottom bearings. The bearings are around 20.33 mm Quote

BDfishing Posted September 7, 2015 Author Posted September 7, 2015 How much tension should be on the thread?? not using the tension rod works a lot better Quote
BDfishing Posted September 7, 2015 Author Posted September 7, 2015 If your threading to the right & the thread is coming up in the front from the bottom, should the thread be a little to the left??? Quote
Super User clayton86 Posted September 7, 2015 Super User Posted September 7, 2015 I only use the one side I don't put two spools on it. I vary the tension depending on what I'm doing. I move the slider to be just a hair to the front to start . Quote
BadBassWV Posted September 8, 2015 Posted September 8, 2015 The thread comes off the top of the spool one side and the bottom of the spool on the other. I had a problem with it getting to tight. 1 Quote
basscatcher8 Posted September 8, 2015 Posted September 8, 2015 Man I'm glad I'm not the only one with this issue. I have the problem where the wing nut spins with the thread spool and so one side if your wrapping the tension gets tighter and tighter and every few wraps you have to reach over and loosen it up or the other side the wing not gets looser and looser and if you don't catch it all your tension comes off at once and then you have a rats nest of thread coming off the spool plus a ruined wrap on top of that. I'm going to try the lock washer trick that was mentioned. 1 Quote
BDfishing Posted September 8, 2015 Author Posted September 8, 2015 Been playing around, not going to use the tension rod, this seems to work way better. Also ordered 2 independent tensioners I may install also Quote
basscatcher8 Posted September 8, 2015 Posted September 8, 2015 After reading this today I came up and said screw it to that piece of all thread that comes with it and made a couple of those tensioners from what I had in the shop. They are just a couple bolts ran up through the same holes you guys used. I know it looks dumb cause now I need a wrench to change out my thread but I've sat here and messed with it a bunch and they will NOT spin like that wing nut was. I just have to set the tension on the spring with the first nut and then tighten the second nut down to it and forget it. I'll take the inconvenience of the wrenches for knowing the tension isn't going haywire on me. Thanks for the idea guys. My next build just arrived today so hopefully get to try it out soon. 1 Quote
