I'd like to build myself 1 custom rod. However, everyone has a price point of no return.

I'd like to build a jigging rod with these specs:

7' - 7'6 (I'm not picky, whatever $ is least)

Anywhere from 3/16oz to 1-1/2oz lures

Heavy power (not picky about action)

Will be using 30-50lb braid or 15-17lb fluorocarbon

So here's the kicker... I'm looking to have the lightest weight rod possible in the $100 range.. Can It Be Done?! Lol

Micro guides would be awesome, I see GET BIT has reel seats for $1.00 and some blanks for under $50.. what do you guys think?

Impossible?

i'm sure it can be done , not going to have the best sensitivity since you probably won't have a high grade graphite/carbon blank , but then again , sensitivity is to one's own opinion and feel , but you might be able to make something that's very fishable !!!

take a look at discontinued blanks that are marked way down !!

If you have the tools and everything you need to build rods then yes, $100 can get a decent rod but if you need to buy rod building supplies in addition to the components and blank, forget it, a shelf rod would be better at that price.

This, 100%. There was a post about a week ago about someone asking if they can have a custom builder create a rod for them around $100. The answer was a resounding no as the Labor and shipping would easily cost that much. Custom rods are for guys that can afford to spend a minimum of $150-200 on the low end. The only way to get one for cheap is to buy a used one or if you know someone or have a friend that would basically build you one for free sort of for fun on their part and lives in your area to avoid shipping costs.

Like Smalljaw said if you build it and source the components you can probably do one for around $100 assuming you have a lot of supplies, materials, and components on hand.

I may be the odd ball here, but I build a lot of rods with less than $100 in parts.

Your problem is the absolute minimum necessary tools you will need will costs you about $100.  So can you build 1 rod for $100, no, BUT you probably can build 5 rods for $500.

As far as the reduced price blanks go, I think they are great.  Most of the blank in the Get Bit blank bonanza are Castaway rods and I have built many on those blanks.

If you want to give it a shot, shoot me a PM and I will walk you through it step by step.

C &  M tackle(ACID ROD.com) sells micro guides ,stainless steel frames w/ zirchromium inserts for .98 cents a piece !! i think they are Alps . pretty decent guides , and the tip tops are $ 1.94 . use a Fuji surf guide( Alconite) BLCAG, in size 6 for your stripper guide , around $2.80
