Super User Montanaro Posted September 5, 2015 Super User Posted September 5, 2015 Bushings? That'd be a terrible reel. Quote
BadBassWV Posted September 5, 2015 Author Posted September 5, 2015 I had never seen 0 bearings before. Quote
Super User smalljaw67 Posted September 5, 2015 Super User Posted September 5, 2015 It has 1 bearing which is probably a spool bearing and the other side will have a bushing. This sounds like the low profile graphite framed casting reels of the mid to late 80s as most were the same way back then, 1 bearing and a bushing for the spool and bushing supported worm gear for the level wind. Josh Smith Posted September 5, 2015 Posted September 5, 2015 Bushings? That'd be a terrible reel. Some of the best reels have had bushings. It just depends on your intended use. Josh Quote
Josh Smith Posted September 5, 2015 Posted September 5, 2015 Looks like it's a mid-grade Shimano..! I'd try it. 26ipt. Josh Quote
jbrew73 Posted September 5, 2015 Posted September 5, 2015 a guy in the local tackle shop told me some new reels were coming out soon that dont have bearings. said they "ride on magnets". same thing?or some junky reel? Quote
Penguino Posted September 6, 2015 Posted September 6, 2015 a guy in the local tackle shop told me some new reels were coming out soon that dont have bearings. said they "ride on magnets". same thing?or some junky reel? interesting concept, but this is a 50$ reel lol. I doubt shimano is gonna invest all this R&D into magnet spools just for a cheap reel nobodys hear of lmao Quote

This is a concept that's been applied elsewhere in the past. I'll be interested in seeing how they pull it off with a reel. Josh Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted September 6, 2015 Global Moderator Posted September 6, 2015 interesting concept, but this is a 50$ reel lol. I doubt shimano is gonna invest all this R&D into magnet spools just for a cheap reel nobodys hear of lmao It appears to mainly be available in Japan and most guys that buy JDM reels aren't looking for budget priced reels, possibly why nobody has heard of it. It does have pretty solid reviews though from the few I've been able to find. Quote
