Reel For Frogging

I need a reel for frogging. In this reel, I want it to be able to cast a mile with 30-50lb braid on there. That's the main thing I am looking for. Any recommendations around the $100 range?

I believe the Johnny Morris reels from BPS are jam-up BC reels. If they were Shimano or Quantum they'd be $200.

 

I have one of the old ones and the drag is strong and smooth. You can feel the quality. Just spin the knob on the handle and it keeps spinning. Best reel I have and you can cinch down the drag, which is what you'll do with the frog, and you won't damage the reel.

Standard model Tatula is close to that new on various places. I bought mine for $75 off of here from a great seller. Love the reel. It casts incredibly far, is used friendly, and has plenty of drag and gear choices.

The Curado I 200HG is my frogging reel. Fits the bill perfectly.

Find a reel that fits comfortably in your hand when walking a frog and get the fastest gear ratio offered with that reel. I prefer the previous zillion and the tatula

I've always wanted to try a Lew's, but haven't had the chance. They seem like they'd be good quality to me.

Lew's are great. The Speed Spool LFS is good and only $99. If you spend more you could get a BB1 in 7.1:1 and that'll really cast a mile. It's what I use for my frog reel.

If you want a small frame buy a Tournament Pro, if you can live with a little bigger frame get a BB1.

Great reel for frogging, its the reel that I have been using. Unless the the OP is willing to spend a little bit more $$, he may want to consider the new Citica instead.

A frog on braid should cast well on anything reel wise. Any of the name brands in the $100> range should have the frame and drag to handle the job. The rod is a much bigger piece of the equation.

Buy a Shimano. I like my Citica I ($150) better than my Lew's Team Lite ($240).

I have a Team Lite and a Magnesium. I use them for

moving baits. I like my Tournament Pro's and BB1 Pro for

jigs, toads, frogs..

I would look hard at a lews tournament mb. I have 2 and love them both. I use 1 exclusively for frogging. Hell of a reel for what I paid for it. Great drag. Clicking drag star and cast control knob. Good magnetic and centrifugal braking system. Easy to tune in. Light and butter smooth.

I found both of mine for 130 shipped on fleabay. Giant step up from the speed spool.

I'm considering buying a couple Super Duty reels.

They are seriously tough out of the box. The only thing

I'd miss having is the main gear grease door.
