Well Volfan, about the other QB balls being checked. The Patriots were not the only team with deflated balls in that game. This is another thing which goes on all the time, other QB's even admitted to it in public they had it done. The same with the prior video taping, they were not the only ones, just the ones called out.

The NFL was in a bad spot when it went to federal court where actual evidence and procedure are required. Not the half done job of people who think they run everything.

I think you nailed it. There's a lot of common practices that go unpenalized. I don't see that this is a huge difference other than all the press. Fine them and let's move on.

The NFL is a joke. Glad he won (not even a Brady fan). Roger Goodell is the biggest idiot in professional sports.

This, especially the Goodell part.   That dude has to go.  He should have been fired after the Ray Rice cover up.

At this point, it's not about Brady, it's about the opening of the flood gates to anyone and everyone taking their punishment from the NFL to court. I just heard that Greg Hardy is considering taking his case to court now. I believe the NFL will fight this recent decision because if they don't, they're never going to be able to discipline a player again without it going to court, every time.

The CBA was written a certain way, and I would think that the NFL would challenge the ruling on that basis.

Yep, the league will appeal this for the very reason you mention. It's gotten to the point where professional sports can't police themselves...unfortunate really.

So, he's a putz because he was perceived to go too light on Ray Rice, and he's a putz because he was perceived to be too heavy handed on Brady?

The only people who hate Goodell are the workers (players). The bosses (owners) almost universally like him. Let's also not forget that the players union agreed to give Goodell all this power.

There is no way that a high school qb that is even vaguely decent does not know instantly that the ball is too soft. Heck even a lineman with stone hands could tell the difference in a couple of pounds of pressure. He knew and cheated anyway. I don't care about smoking guns or non sense: He violated the trust of the game as Bill has also done with video taping and other underhanded bs. Kraft loves to paint himself as a man of integrity but he is a fraud as are their championships

What he said.

No doubt he knew that they were under inflated or as he liked them which was under inflated. You have to be totally clueless to think otherwise.

Or not have the capacity to comprehend science ~  ie. The ideal gas law.

And now that "The NFL" & the media have made such big deal about football psi - and since the league will be closely monitoring it before, during & after each game, there's good chance during the colder outdoor games, this mysterious gas law will undoubtedly be discussed again.

No, he's a putz because he only gave Ray Rice 2 games and then back tracked when the video from inside the elevator went public and he acted like he'd never seen it.    He then suspended Rice indefinitely, after public outrage.

He's a putz for suspending Brady for 4 games and punishing the Patriots so harshly when he didn't have any hard evidence to support the NFL's case.  When the appeal was made, Goodell was the one who heard it, seems fair.   The punishment was unprecedented and his unwillingness to reduce it makes him look like a pouting child.

Thank god we live in the USA, where you can find fairness in the court system to clear your good name.

Of course you need lots of money to do it.  This is a classic case of the out of touch, so far up in their ivory towers that they are unable to apply a common sense business approach to the simplest of problems.  A CEO in any other industry would be shown the door for this type of thing.  Maybe this is what will happen to Goodell, who knows.   Of course he works for the owners, most of who are far removed from reality, some of who encouraged this nonsense.

Yes,but not without $30 million dollar bonus check + stocks/bond options

So now the NFL is appealing the ruling. A good business person would call this throwing good money after bad. This case could be used to teach any entry level business student how not to run an organization.

Anyone familiar with the evidence in the case - read the Wells report as well as subsequent admissions by the NFL to Judge Berman - can see that this whole thing backfired on the NFL and their integrity is now what is questionable. However, they choose to keep this mess going and the dumpster fire that is the NFL headquarters continues to smolder in full public view.

I wish this would just go away, however, Goodell and his crew will not let that happen.

Go Giants!!!

Me too...unfortunately folks outside of 495 still thinks he's a cheater, which is sad, really.

I'm happy.....The ones that aren't are just mad because their team won't have a 4 game headstart before Brady got to play.

On a side note, there is no code of conduct with any penalties of what happens if they break the rule.  NFL should move on, lay down a code of conduct about equipment and rules, fines, penalties that will be inforced if not followed.  Should have fined the team, done this and set the mark for any future issues concerning improper ball inflatiion.  The only ones that seem not to care are the Colts who admitted they had gotten beat 28 - 0 in the second half.  I'm glad they fixed the psi problem.  It could have been a close game otherwise since their first half stats weren't near as good as the second half.  GO PAT's

The bottom line is neither side will back down. If the judge would have ruled in favor of the NFL, does anyone really believe Tom Brady wouldn't have appealed it?

This isn't over. It hinges completely on the wording of the CBA, and what it says about evidence vs non evidence, as it relates to Goodells power to discipline players, again that the PA agreed to.

While we wait for all of this to play out, I have a question that no one has been able to answer to my satisfaction, enough to make me agree with.

If I assume that Brady had absolutely no idea about the deflated balls, and the league believed that, then what the NFL is doing is basically trying to frame arguably the best team and the best quarterback in the league. What's the motivation for that, considering before this all went down we heard about how good of friends Goodell and Kraft were?

he got off because he rules were vague, consequences were not explicit and the process to check things was not solid.  I have no doubt he did it and did it knowingly but the NFl screwed the pooch on this one and lost in the long run.  Th longer it drug out the better the chance of appeal and it being overturned.

The NFL has already stated they are appealing the ruling so we will see what happens.  At this point, even I don't care, just let people play, get Goodell out of the league and get someone in there with some integrity to deal with cheaters harshly, quickly and fairly like the should.

An arrogant, know it all bully like Goodell wants to throw his weight around and is envious of Tom Brady- how's that for motivation. Sometimes people in ivory towers need to crush those below them just because they can and this makes them feel good. Sad but true. What a farce this is. Also, on top of Goodell's other character qualities, he's a disloyal double crosser. an all around good guy

Good theory, but highly unlikely. Even if I believed that, why would he punish his good buddy Robert Kraft if he was envious of TB?

they aren't good buddies anymore...you can bet on that one.  This was not a frame job, it was just a poorly executed investigation.

Reality shows don't win oscars, but they do get viewers. This dumpster fire just kept the NFL and Goodell in the news cycle throughout the entire offseason.

Commissioner Roger Goodell announced today that He Will Not be in Foxboro for the NFL's season opener as the New England Patriots Hang their Fourth Super Bowl Championship Banner.

Traditionally the NFL Commissioner is in attendance.

Everything about this has been poorly handled. The league had to be aware of the problem. It's been going on for years. In an attempt to cover their failure to deal with the problem and the embarrassment of it going public after the biggest game of the year, they went after Brady and the Patriots. Had they just made it clear that this was not going to be allowed anymore and changed the way balls are handled and monitored, this would be long done. Doing this would now would require the league to take some responsibility for a system that guaranteed a lack of consistency and uniformity-two things they say they are committed to. I am not buying it at this point.

The Colts were tipped off by another team because they had found the same thing earlier. Gas law or no gas law. The players knew that those footballs were under inflated once they touched them. The other teams footballs worked under inflated. After an interception the Colts defender could tell that those balls were under inflated. Why is it so difficult to accept that Brady like the balls under inflated so he can grip them better?

Man... Brady... Patriots... These threads are starting to turn into the "what 5 baits would you take here" or "what 2 rods would you take here" threads!

It's still baseball season! lol

Agreed, even if the Sox are in last place....

The Colts were tipped off by other sore losers the Ravens. Note that There is a range that is acceptable and the Patriots were within the low end of the range. After halftime at the high end of the range, Brady's performance improved and the Colt's were toast.

Read all the facts pertaining to the case.

Read also Dan Wetzel's piece yesterday in Yahoo sports and you will have a less biased and more informed basis for commenting.

Let's move on - new season - Go Giants!!!
