Hey guys,

I was wondering if anyone has experience w/ Izorline XXX in 20lb or above? I want to use it for t rigs for light to moderate cover on a MH rod. I have my flipping rod spooled w/ suffix 832 but the low visibility of floro and copolymer give me a little more confidence.  I notice the diameter is kind of thick though (.45). I was just curious as to how it would perform on a low profile bait caster.

For topwater I was thinking big game which is also a little thick and was wondering if 20b will be alright on a baitcaster.

Thanks for the help!

Yeah, that's why I was thinking of using it for topwater treble hook baits like walkers and poppers. Did it seem to cast alright though?

i use 20 ,25 , and 30 lb. izorline XXX for swimbaits but for t-rigs and top water i think 20 lb. is way too much line !!! use some 12 lb. or 15 at the most and even that is pretty stout line !!

i couldn't see myself even thinking of using 20 lb. line unless it was Sniper or Shooter which is flourocarbon which sinks and a LOT thinner ! , not good for topwater but great for texas rigged plastics for fishing the bottom.

Yeah, it casts fine for anything larger than 1/4 oz. I use 15# Big Game for topwaters. It's better than alright. It's the right tool for the job IMO. The reason such a large diameter line is good for this application is that mono floats. Thicker mono floats better. This won't impede the action of the topwaters and the stretch won't rip hooks out of the fish. If you're really in love with mono and want it for T-rigs, use the best hooks money can buy and you'll land more fish. I love Gamakatsu EWG and straight shank worm hooks.

I just switched my T-rig and C-rig rods over to braid because I wasn't feeling bites. Or, more to the point, frogs aren't producing in mid-day for me, so I took that rod for C-rigs. Braid with a mono leader. I don't "believe in" leaders, per se. But I use a Carolina Keeper on the line and it won't thread or stay on braid.

0.45 diameter line? That's not line, that's rope.

.45mm = .018 diameter.

20 seems like overkill to me and if you are a big hookset guy braid to a leader might not be the best set up either. It adds a failure point. For t rigs i like a good flouro but for topwater its not the best bc it sinks. As they are opposites of each other you will have to find a happy middle.

I agree that 20# is a bit heavier than I prefer for most topwater baits. I would not hesitate to use it though, keeping in mind that it would not handle as well as something a little thinner. It might be great for throwing squarebills or blade baits into cover. It would work for heavier t-rigs, although I prefer fluorocarbon for this application. Enjoy!

I think I settled on 15lb mono for topwater. I believe xxx is a copolymer though so I felt like it would be fine for t rigs. I just want sure how it would cast or sit on the spool.

And sorry if I made that confusing. I have a flipping rod spoiled with suffix but I want to use another rod for t rigs. I'm definitely keeping the suffix braid on the flipping rod.

Thanks for the help guys!

I've used 20lb big game on my tatula for topwater with no problems at all.  I like it for walking style baits like spooks and lately a Damiki Rambler 120  because it floats and is easier to walk the dog.  I even wax the last 3 or 4 feet to help it float. For Texas rigs I will use sunline sniper fc @ 14lb test.
