NotnatsSamoht Posted September 3, 2015 Posted September 3, 2015 Are the microwave guides worth a try, do they really increase distance? I fish from the bank so some extra distance would be great. Let me know your experiences with it. Quote
Super User Big Bait Fishing Posted September 3, 2015 Super User Posted September 3, 2015 i assume you are talking about a spinning setup - i don't have micro wave guide set up on my spinning rod but did go with smaller guides for the stripper guide , second guide and choke guide to micro (3.5) running guides . i used a size 20 for the stripper guide which tames the coils coming off the spool pretty good then a size 12 followed by a size 8 then to 3.5 micro guides , the line gets tamed quickly and i would say i've gained at least 10 -15 yards on my casts which i think is pretty substantial !!! Super User S Hovanec Posted September 3, 2015 Super User Posted September 3, 2015 I've built a couple with the spinning and one with the casting. The spinning guides work as advertised. Didn't notice any advantage with the casting. Quote

Super User MickD Posted September 4, 2015 Super User Posted September 4, 2015 Lots of opinions on Microwave, I suggest you try a set and make your own conclusion. I guarantee you will not see a deficit of any type with them, and the setup for them is a piece of cake. Just follow the Amtak directions for the first three guides, then position the others with a stress test. Quote

Delaware Valley Tackle Posted September 4, 2015 Posted September 4, 2015 I've built a couple with the spinning and one with the casting. The spinning guides work as advertised. Didn't notice any advantage with the casting. X2. How much improvement you'll see depends on what you are comparing to and realizing there are other factors that affect casting. Quote
Super User S Hovanec Posted September 4, 2015 Super User Posted September 4, 2015 I still prefer the Fuji K frames though. They just seem/feel/look like a better guide. The Amtak guides require more work to get the feet prepped for wrapping. The Fujis are cleaner in that aspect. Quote
Super User MickD Posted September 4, 2015 Super User Posted September 4, 2015 With any high frame/small ring design, keep in mind that the rod may not fit into your tubes. If you want the rod to fit fairly tight tubes check the finished heights before building. Quote
Super User rippin-lips Posted September 4, 2015 Super User Posted September 4, 2015 Standard guides for Aaron Marten's Enigma Edge series rods, B.A.S.S. Elite AOY for 2015. Tom The majority of the 2015 season was spent using Megabass/Daiwa gear. Doesn't exactly mean a whole lot. It's the Indian not the arrow. Did Megabass drop him? He left Megabass/Daiwa to work with Enigma fishing. He now has his own line of rods out. He's using Jdm Shimanos for reels now. They offered him more $ and a signature rod. He gone! Quote
Super User WRB Posted September 4, 2015 Super User Posted September 4, 2015 Aaron started and finished the 2015 season using his Enigma rods. If you recall he had a icing issue with guides during the 1st event, the 2015 Classic. His boat was Enigma wrapped, the gray colored rods on the deck the entire season. I haven't used microwave guides. Doug Hannon invented the guides for spinning rods and they appear to work well. If I buy another spinning rod I will give Enigma try. Tom Quote

Actually, Aaron fished all of 2015 with Enigma rods. He was the Sabine River event decked out in Enigma gear. Though I agree he is one guy who could fish any rod and still win AOY. Quote
Super User rippin-lips Posted September 4, 2015 Super User Posted September 4, 2015 I stand corrected. Quote
Super User WRB Posted September 4, 2015 Super User Posted September 4, 2015 Off topic; If Aaron was a archer his arrows would be perfectly straight, the fletching aligned, the length measured before he would use it. On topic; I believe his choice of microwave guides was studied and tested before he decided to use them. Aaron is focused on details and that is why he is 2015 AOY and his rods are a bargin at $170. Super User Big Bait Fishing Posted September 5, 2015 Super User Posted September 5, 2015 whats the difference between micro and "microwave"? you'll have to look it it up on American Tackle web site , it is better told by them with video of how it works , as far as Microwave casting guides , to me , they are not worth the cost of the guide set compared to other guides that are better and cost similar or less ... 1 Quote
