Super User Montanaro Posted September 1, 2015 Super User Posted September 1, 2015 Dad's Bday is coming up and I need suggestions on cool/unique lures to get him. He's becoming difficult to shop for so I'd also take other accesories or apparel suggestions. Quote
CrazyFluker Posted September 1, 2015 Posted September 1, 2015 A little more info might get you more replies. Does he fish from the bank or a boat? How old is he? Megabass Pop Max is a great top water bait. It's a little pricey so he might appreciate a bait he wouldn't spend his own money on. I know I was skeptical with $20+ baits so went with the top water and am happy I did. I've caught a lot of bass on them and only lost one in two years. 1 Quote
Super User Montanaro Posted September 1, 2015 Author Super User Posted September 1, 2015 Mid 60s and from boat. He doesn't have many poppers so I'll look at that. I love my ricos. Quote

Ringonu Posted September 1, 2015 Posted September 1, 2015 I would second the pop max or pop-x. I plan on buying one for my dad for xmas (and asking for a couple as well) Quote
Super User Montanaro Posted September 1, 2015 Author Super User Posted September 1, 2015 I was also thinking of a jackal pompador jr. Be easy to work and he has always loved jitterbugs. Quote
Jake the Cake Posted September 1, 2015 Posted September 1, 2015 If you can find one, the Megabass Siglett is AMAZING. Best top water I own and is at it's best in the upcoming fall fishing. Quote
FinCulture Posted September 1, 2015 Posted September 1, 2015 Either get him some 200 dollar swim bait or a cool vintage lure that you could make a little mount for and give to him. Quote
NotnatsSamoht Posted September 1, 2015 Posted September 1, 2015 Subscription to mtb or ltb so he can try alot of new lures every month. Quote
Super User fishballer06 Posted September 2, 2015 Super User Posted September 2, 2015 Pomp Jr. will be in my next order from TW. Check them out. Quote
Global Moderator Mike L Posted September 2, 2015 Global Moderator Posted September 2, 2015 Get him a River 2 Seas "Whopper Plooper". Guys from the NE swear by them. Based on a recommendation from some here on another thread I ordered one and tried it last weekend for the first time. It just doesn't move water, this thing spits water. At first I thought it was one of those novelty lures you see advertised but I see where it could be a top water killer in certain waters. Didn't get hit, but it was probably just me playing around with it. Mike Quote

Super User the reel ess Posted September 2, 2015 Super User Posted September 2, 2015 For my birthday, I'd like something I don't have and is so expensive I probably wouldn't buy for myself. Like a +/-$20 Matt's Bluegill swimbait. Something along that line or a gift card/certificate to someplace I could get it. Quote
FinCulture Posted September 2, 2015 Posted September 2, 2015 an mtb or ltb gift subscription is definitely a good way to go. He'll love it! Quote
gobig Posted September 2, 2015 Posted September 2, 2015 I would get him a Roman Made Mother. Nothing says I love you like a $400 swimbait. 1 Quote
microotter Posted September 2, 2015 Posted September 2, 2015 The new lucky craft sammy bug looks pretty cool and is kind of similar to the jitterbug. Quote
Heron Posted September 2, 2015 Posted September 2, 2015 +2 on getting him an expensive bait. It makes a lot of sense as a gift. Quote
Big C Posted September 3, 2015 Posted September 3, 2015 Welcome to the world of "hard to shop for old men". My dad, over the years, has gotten harder and harder to buy stuff for. It's to the point where an LED flashlight is #2 on the gift list. If I was in your shoes I would go for an eccentric lure. Maybe a couple weird Japanese lures or a cool swimbait. Tackle Warehouse has Bettencourt dying bluegills on sale that would be a pretty cool gift. Quote
