tebow Posted August 31, 2015 Posted August 31, 2015 Hey guys! I am going on a fishing trip soon to a small lake up in Michigan. I will be fishing mostly for bass and pike and I wanted to buy some lures online. I would love some lure recommendations. My dad and I used to use only live bait to fish for pike on our yearly fishing trip and we would rarely catch anything. Last year was the first year we actually used some lures and we had a lot better luck. I do some pike and bass lures but not many. What types of lures do you guys use and what are some of your favorites. I also am going to get some soft plastics and need help deciding on what ones to get. Quote
Super User A-Jay Posted August 31, 2015 Super User Posted August 31, 2015 I live & fish in Northern MI ~ Lately a chatter bait / vibrating jig has been very good for bass and espeially good on Pike here. The Strike King Rage Blade in both the 3/8 & 1/2 oz sizes with a swim bait type trailer works great. The Lake Fork Boot Tail Live Magic Shad, Reactions Innovations Skinny Dipper and the Berkly Havoc Grass Pig are all great options. Pretty Easy bait to fish too - just cast it out, reel it back and Hold On ~ Good Luck A-Jay Quote
NotnatsSamoht Posted August 31, 2015 Posted August 31, 2015 Your going to get 100 different answers from people about favorites, best thing to do is buy the ones you want and try them, I recently cause my biggest bass on a lure I had over a year and never used, they all work, just gotta use them. But to answer you question my favorites are crankbaits and poppers, and recently chatterbaits. Good luck on your trip. Quote
Super User bigbill Posted August 31, 2015 Super User Posted August 31, 2015 Mepps inlines, Anglia #3, #4, #5 silver blade, gray dressed. Anglia #3, #4, #5 gold blade, Brown dressed. Mann's classic spinnerbaits, White it's a blue glimmer skirt, twin gold Colorado blades. Trailer & trailer hook. Chartruese skirt, twin Colorado gold blades, trailer & trailer hook. Crankbaits, larger sized baits catch larger Pike. Smaller sized baits catch bass. When the bite is on with the smaller fish and it slows down upside your baits. The larger ones come in to see what the smaller fish are feeding on but won't hit the smaller baits. Quote
Super User RoLo Posted August 31, 2015 Super User Posted August 31, 2015 Smallmouth bass or largemouth bass? For northern pike I'd take along some Mepps Syclops spoons, LC Pointer 128SP jerkbaits and above all in autumn, some Dirty Jig Swim Jigs and Uncle Josh 7" Fork-Tail Sea Strips Roger 1 Quote

Both smallies and pike. The pike seem to be a lot less finicky than the bass this year, too. Last time I was out I was getting a lot of topwater frog action-for pike...which I thought was strange. Northern Michigan is definitely a good mix for the predator fish. 1 Quote
DevinFishing29 Posted August 31, 2015 Posted August 31, 2015 My favorite for bass is a rebel pop-r. Or any topwater lure for that matter. For pike I would use a spinnerbait or jerkbait. Quote
Super User Bankbeater Posted August 31, 2015 Super User Posted August 31, 2015 If pike are anything like muskie, they will hit any bait a bass will that is 1/2 ounce or larger. Quote
Super User ww2farmer Posted September 1, 2015 Super User Posted September 1, 2015 Pike will hit anything a bass will. If your around pike, some people say move the bass won't be there..................I say stay right where you are, sort through the more willing toothy beasts, because there WILL BE bass in the area...no not 12"er's , but more like 4- 5lb + fish. They ain't stupid, they let the pike run the area, lay low and then pick off the leftovers. If numbers of bass is what you seek.........get out of there, a 12"-2.5lb bass is toast when pike are chomping. 1 Quote
faygo1979 Posted September 1, 2015 Posted September 1, 2015 If i am targeting both bass and Pike I throw a spinner-bait about 80% of the time. look for something with silver or chrome, white and blue colors then throw them over the weed beds. second choice would be a jig or a chatterbait. 2 Quote
