Bass newb Posted August 31, 2015 Posted August 31, 2015 Little white spotted frog booyah branded... I'd been fishing for four + hours and nearly nothing to show for it. I was getting hungry and feeling miserable. I said to myself, I wanna throw this frog in the weeds that I just got through throwing a t rig worm into less than an hour ago. Even though I fished this frog for 3 hours last week for the first time ever and not a bite...I just wanted to throw it some before I finished this annoying fishless day. I was throwing it like a zombie. No cadence, no special attention, just hocking it to and fro. Then very unexpectedly, boom! I saw a swish in the water and I felt tension on the 30lb braided line. I set the hook and reeled and reeled, and I couldn't believe I was about to land this 2+ lb spotted bass. I was so excited and I didn't have my net ready and as soon as I got it to the paddleboard deck it threw the hook! Oh no, I fought with it and finally pinned it to the deck while I fumbled around for my net...I almost lost it twice! I put him in my seat cooler and he was the fighting-est fish I'd ever caught. I was relieved to be sitting on the cooler lid finally. I remembered all the videos saying "all the fish in an area are doing the same thing" so I went to the other hot spot that I just knew a bass was in, threw the frog off in the weeds and it wasn't 3 casts later I landed another 2 + pounder! This time my net was ready and he was hooked deeper in the throat. That was a super exciting first time experience for me. I never imagined I would ever land a bass on a frog from the hours I'd spent flinging that thing to get nothing. I wish I'd had a video of those catches so I could watch it again. 4 Quote
Bass newb Posted September 1, 2015 Author Posted September 1, 2015 Caught my third one tonight after work. 5 minutes worth of casts and I moved on to a new spot and then I saw action back where I was just casting so I cast right on top of the splash and BOOM! I was so focused on not setting the hook too early that I never set it! I just pulled a little and reeled fast. The hook got him on the mouth, I guess he never got it in his throat. 2 more hours and not a sign of another bass in the grass. 2 Quote
Bass newb Posted September 2, 2015 Author Posted September 2, 2015 Almost caught another last night. He hit my frog 2 times but missed both times. This frog fishing is awesome. 2 Quote

civis84 Posted September 2, 2015 Posted September 2, 2015 I am a frog and swim bait man. It is thrilling and the cover you can throw frogs into open up areas where cranks and topwaters just get all snagged up on grass and branches. The fish in my pic is off a frog in heavy grass cover. Deebass18 Posted September 16, 2015 Posted September 16, 2015 My first big bass was ok the old scum frog big foot and it was also my 1st frog fish. Have not been able to put them down since. And I always look at old big foot when I'm in my tackle box Quote
WPCfishing Posted September 22, 2015 Posted September 22, 2015 Give toad fishing a try. Get some gambler cane toads. Keep your frog rod ready to go... The toad is a moving bait, when you get an explosion with with a miss get the toad back ASAP and cast the frog to The spot... Most fun bass fishing there is! Quote
68camaro Posted September 22, 2015 Posted September 22, 2015 Congrats, I haven't landed a bass yet on frog as I just started but I have had 4 or 5 swats, one took the frog under but I lost it setting hook to fast, and I saw ones head come up just behind my frog. If I can only control my urge to yank when I get hit I'll hopefully land my first..... Quote

I don't think the fish are into the frogs now from my recent experience. They seem to be very lazy hits as of lately. Quote

Sometimes I fish my frogs moving, and other times twitching. A toad seems no different. Quote
Super User gardnerjigman Posted September 22, 2015 Super User Posted September 22, 2015 I really don't understand any difference. Sometimes I fish my frogs moving, and other times twitching. A toad seems no different. The difference is a toad is meant to buzz the surface just like a buzzbait. A frog is meant to walk, twitch, pop on the surface. I'm sure you can get bit doing them the opposite, but they work much better when used as they were intended to be. Quote

A toad seems no different. Huge difference..... when you get more time under your belt catching bass on both types of baits you will discover the differences. Trust me... Quote
Super User everythingthatswims Posted September 24, 2015 Super User Posted September 24, 2015 Spots on a frog, now that's cool Quote
Bass newb Posted September 24, 2015 Author Posted September 24, 2015 Caught 2 more on a sexy spotted frog last night! Kvd green yellow and spotted. I don't think color seems to matter. White spotted, yellow spotted, and yellow and green spotted have all worked for me. Quote
Super User gardnerjigman Posted September 24, 2015 Super User Posted September 24, 2015 Yah. I throw booyah poppin pad crashers in black and in "cricket". Quote
Bass newb Posted September 26, 2015 Author Posted September 26, 2015 Caught two more last night. All this frogging of lately has been between 6:15 and 6:45. Nothing before and nothing after. In fact 90% of my fish have been between 6 and 7 pm. I really have trouble catching anything any other time. Quote
