Paper or plastic, Ford or Chevy, live bait or artificial, public or private water, man made or natural reservoir, Shimano or Abu, GLoomis or St Croix, C&R or fish fry, skin mount or reproduction........I guess it makes for some uninteresting back and forth here.

HEY EVERYBODY....I CAUGHT MY PERSONAL BEST 7LB LARGEMOUTH ON A CRAPPIE MINNOW.....FROM A MAN MADE RESERVOIR.......WITH A $30 SPINNING COMBO....IT'S HANGING ABOVE MY FIRE PLACE WITH A 4 1/2LB SMALL MOUTH.......SO THERE!!!! I guess not only do I suck as a bass fisherman, but I'm cheap and unethical .

Here's a thought. Use whatever works for you, wherever it works for you,

Oh Yea ~ well I caught my PB on a Pink Hula Popper Trolled down 4 colors on lead core line on an ultra light noodle rod,  only I didn't weight it or measure it even on account that I had forgot my scale & my pants as well.

And it was cold.

I use plastic so I can reuse to hold all the fillets I get after dynamiting the fish to the surface. I certainly don't care.

Here, here. Until someone wants to pay for my gear, i'll stay within my budget and enjoy fishing, no matter what that budget is, or how many people tell me I need to use *insert brand* or my budget isn't sufficient enough to enjoy fishing.

With your charm, personality, and way with words it is hard to believe some think you are a little harsh sometimes Slone.

Come to think about it, maybe we all could use a little help in the stress department.  Okay, I'll buy the first round, but d-camarena needs to sober up first.  Popcorn in the oven???

Suck?     Nuh uh :tsk-tsk:

A 7-lb bass on a crappie minnow is equivalent to a 9-lb bass on a bass minnow.

I use to fish livebait for bass all the time and still do sometimes. If I catch a new PB on livebait you better believe everyone is going to hear about it!

The combo is over you're fireplace?  I'd still be using it.

I fish for what's available to me, the bigger the better.   I focus on bass from NOV-Feb. and  do it economically. One of my favorite bass/peacock set ups is  UL rod that cost me about 40 bucks and trion20 spinning reel that I've had about 8 years, all I use on it is a Storm chug a bug.

I don't require much else, or wish to complicate my fishing.

The more I fish, the more I learn from the seasoned veterans on here, the more expensive equipment and fancier colors I get, the more I learn; these four letters have a heck of a lot of truth in them:

K.I.S.S. !!!

I have found that two combos work best for me fishing from the bank. I don't bring a whole lineup of 7 rods and reels with me. I worked through all the tackle I don't use and traded it away. I consolidated my tackle into fewer plano boxes. My back thanks me when I'm walking around a pond :D

What's the point of having 1,000s of dollars worth of tackle sitting in your garage that you never take out fishing with you? Give some of it to a kid who's learning how to fish.

In the end, no matter your budget or ideas of simplicity, you can go out and enjoy catching fish.

Like Slone, I agree that most debates about subjective material aren't useful; though, in some cases an OP is actually looking for advice.  I guess some people find these things interesting and it is their prerogative to talk about them.  If I don't find the post interesting, or if it has been covered ad nauseam, I don't participate.

Love it.

I'll spin ye' a yarn -a true one: A buddy I used to muskie fish with on the St. Lawrence River had the biggest muskie ever come onto the floor of his boat one summer. It was 51-1/2" long and was caught by an inebriated kid on a 1/4oz Mr. Twister jig on a cheap Zebco spin-cast outfit.

The ultra light noodle rod is garbage.  You should be using the Spank-Me-Hard Medium action rod.  And by the way, I've found that Uranium line is much better than the lead core lines.  I believe the fish can sense the radioactive particle emissions with their swim bladders and it draws them to the lure.  Does anyone know who makes the best lead suit for fishing this rig?
