So I went yak fishing on the Diascund Reservoir last Thursday morning.  When I was done I got everything (or so I thought) loaded back onto my truck and took off.  This afternoon I had the realization that I think I left my tackle box sitting on the boat ramp.  And it was one of those days where I brought "everything".  I went back this afternoon for the long shot that it might still be there or someone might know.  Nothing.  Hundreds of dollars worth of tackle gone.  At that point I started feeling a little sick.

Anyways, I'm posting this here for the even crazier long shot that someone here may have visited Diascund sometime since Thursday morning and may have seen it.  It's a camo tackle bag which holds 4 plano boxes.

I guess this means I'm starting over from scratch again on tackle, not cool.   :(

Thanks for any info you may have,

Joey

d**n, good luck and I hope you miraculously find you missing tackle.  I actually drove by not far from there today on my way to buckroe beach.

on a semi-related note, how was the fishing?  I have been out there once this year and the low water was crazy but i was out with my son so it was more just to paddle around and see what we could get to bite.

I went out early, weather was perfect, bait fish popping all over the place like crazy but I got nothing else to bite.  The water is crazy low, I think it's down about 8 feet just this year.  Either way I continued to get skunked at Diascund and it's getting frustrating.  I paddled all the way up the middle as far as I could go and worked my way back and then fished the first bridge pile ons and still nothing.  I tried topwater for the first hour then switched to some small spinners and rooster tails just to try to get *anything*.

I think I'm going to make my way back over to Chickahominy Lake soon and I'd like to try out Waller Mill, haven't tried them yet but have heard good things.

Do you have any thoughts about Diascund?  I'd really like to figure that place out since it's the closest one to me.

I really like Diascund and fished there a lot last summer.  I talked to a guy who worked for the utilities department or whatever and he said it was drawn down about 8-10 feet for repairs to the dam or something and will be that way for a year or so.

It is a tough and finicky lake.  There are also a lot of bowfin and gar in there and usually that is what i have seen chasing he baitfish around.  I usually don't do much fishing until i get past the second bridge.  I have had some incredible days out there too but it is tough because i think the fish move around a lot since it is relatively shallow and flat and loaded with grass.

All the way at the north end, about 4+miles from the ramp, is a huge lilly pad field that i have had great success.  My guess would be it is dry though with how low the water level is.  I need to get back out there again to check it all out as it is pretty close to me too.  With the water level dropping i would think it would help to concentrate the fish somewhat.

Crap, that's terrible.  I hope that never happens to anyone, but it brings up a thought.  Perhaps attaching a luggage type tag to gear bags would help in recovering items, if found by a decent person.

Yep, you're definitely right jbw52, I told my wife that exact thing today.  I'll definitely be attaching a name/phone number tag to anything like that I have in the future!

really really sad to hear that. Perhaps "lost bag" signs near the dock will help?

Hey Hawg,

That's some good info, thanks!  I haven't made it past the 2nd bridge yet but I'll think I'll try that next time I'm out there.  I'd also like to try going up one of the two long creeks up to the right from the boat ramp, I'm guessing that is where you're talking about the lily pad field because I don't think the center channel I went up was that far.  I also read that they've added another 1200 carp in this year because they're trying to get rid of some of the grass but every place I've been to that has done that in the past has ruined the fishing for quite a while so I don't like that much either.  Either way I'm sure I'll make it back out there again soon (once I try to get a little tackle again) and I'll let you know how it goes.

Thanks again!

Joey

Wow....Bummer.  Sorry to hear this.  A few years ago I went out to bank fish this little out of the way conservation area and found 3 bags of what had to be pretty expensive duck decoys.  I left them there in the hope the hunter would come back

That really sucks. I used to keep a laminated piece of paper inside mine that said "If found please call _____, reward if returned". Thankfully never had to resort to that and obviously going to depend on the person that finds it, but at least then they had a chance to do the right thing.

I'd put a sign up so just maybe the person might do the right thing. You might call the local PD and see if maybe it was turned in too.
