It probably sounds odd to our northern members, but here in the Mid South

smallmouth season really gets underway in late September or mid October

depending on the weather. Needless to say, we're excited!

By far my favorite technique is fishing jerkbaits, but this year I have some new

"secret weapons" custom built by CJ for Kentucky Lake. I will be posting an

in-depth review after an outing or two.  Another "new to me" will be the 6th Sense

Crush Flat 75X which was a Christmas present from AJ. Other go-to lures for me

are the Rage Tail Menace on a Siebert Swim Jig, MegaStrike MegaTube Craw and

MegaBug on the ShakE2 Pro Series.

I would like to have better success with artificials, but after my buddies land the

first ten smallmouth I will be joining them drifting  minnows on a split shot rig with

a Gamakatsu Circle Hook. This is a proven winner.

Not odd to me.  I wait with baited (pun intended) breath for the first frost..It's like flippin' a switch on the lake I fish in the fall.  I love throwing a Zara Spook and watching them blow it 3 feet in the air. Of course it's pretty cool when they get hooked also.  Good Luck

I'm going out tomorrow in hopes of some 5-6lb smallies. So much fun chasin those footballs!
