I ended up buying the major craft vokley. Vkc-69ml/bfs. 150 with free shipping is hard to pass up. It will be here sometime between sept.14-29. We shall see. Might still order something custom too. I have a old Calcutta 50 that my grandfather gave me just sitting on a shelf waiting for a worthy rod.

I got the 68L shipped straight from Vietnam. FedEx says it will be here Thursday, so I bet you get yours a lot sooner. I think you ordered from the same seller. My delivery window was the same as yours.

This coming Thursday? Please let us know if it gets here Thursday because it took a month and a half for my MS-X Limited to arrive and I bought it from the same people, Shimreels, that you bought your Volkey.

I may be buying another MS-X Limited but next time it will be from Plat.

If it got held up in customs, the seller didn't have anything to do with it.  I had a reel from Digitaka get held up for over a month, just luck of the draw.

It wasn't customs that was at fault. I attribute the problems to using economy shipping from across the globe.

Man, that would suck. I've never had that issue before. Hope it's not my turn! I thought it was shipping from Vietnam, but the shipping notification says Singapore. Don't know if that's good or bad...

I've only had that one package get held up that long and I've bought a lot of stuff from Japan over the years.  It's also the only package I've ever been charged duties on.  I doubt the shipping location matters much, assuming it gets shipped properly to begin with.

Yes I ordered mine from shimreels via eBay. Ebays window says 14-29 but fedex says est delivery date is 9-3.

Mine also says Singapore. Not sure how I feel about that.

"Fedex express mail takes 3-7 days and has full online tracking. All expensive purchases over $100 is preferably shipped by FEDEX."

This is a quote from shimreels shipping page. So hopefully we don't have problem. Fingers crossed

I hope you guys don't have the problems that I did. I know in the future, I will be using Plat or any of the other Japan based JDM Retailers for my rod n reel purchases. I did recently order a Megabass Baby Pop X and a Megabass Baby Griffon Zero from Shimreels and the wait was what I expected so I was not disappointed. The Major Craft rods are worth a wait but the main thing is is hopefully your rods arrive safe and sound.

Plat doesn't have either the 68L or 69ML. It'll be alright. I've had a rod or two shipped from amazon in a box like that reduced to carbon shards, but that aluminum rod actually seems like it might prevent that. I don't know. Time will tell.

I'm in the same boat. After selLing a tfo because it was my least favorite rod I owned. I bought another 7 foot medium light for a scorpion 1000xt for very small baits. 1/8 oz jigs panther martens , 4 inch senkos weightless with #2 finesse hooks. On 8 PouND trilene 100% percent. It cast great. But I after the cast it's dead. Just like the last one. I wished I would have just waited on a jdm and got the majorcraft volkey bfs. Don't let sells man fool you into buying a tfo claiming they fish with a garyloomis. Because they don't even come close. Buyers remorse. However it is very fun to fish. Just wish I had a better rod

I'm am very hopeful and excited about this rod.

My next decision is line choice. Light braid,6lb yozuri,or a light fulro. Sniper, tatsu. Ect.

What are you guys using?

I'm fishing very stained water so visibility.is not a concern

But cover is. Sensitivity, abrasion resistance and castability is key.

Gonna give the 6 lbs yozuri a try first because I already have a spool at the house. But I'm open to suggestions.

I've never fished fluoro so I'm very curious as to how a top end brand would perform.

On my light line setups for moving baits, I have used 6# P Line which I don't like because it seems to curl and kink easy. I bought some 6# Sunline Super Natural that handles great but it's weak. I'll bet the last time that I used it, I had 6 knots break while I was retying. I recently bought some 8# Big Game that I have not fished with yet. If that doesn't work out, I may switch to 8 or 10# braid

For bottom contact baits, I have used 7 and 10# Sniper and at the moment, I have 7# spooled on a Aldebaran Mg7.

I am also using Avail and Yumeya Shallow Spools.

The bad part about buying rods you can't fish with first is that you might not be happy with your purchase. I've sold off more rods then I currently own due to that reason. The most recent being a Majorcraft Volkey. It was not a bfs model though. I fished it twice and tried to like it but it wasn't meant to be. They look nice though.

that's why I dislike buying a rod with out handling it first.  either barrow a buddies rod or at least handling it in a store, I like to put my hand on them first.   there just isn't a selection of quality l/ml rods locally. im forced to order online and take a gamble.  Ive tried to talk a local tackle shop into carrying a selection of finesse rods but he refuses. his sale are 90% speckled trout and red drum fishermen. although I did get him to carry rage craws, megastrike shakey heads ,and cavitrons. so I cant be too mad.

if I end up not liking the vokley, it will just go into the corner with a couple other budget rods that I reserve for taking other people fishing. I have my fingers crossed though. looks to be a nice rod.

We have 1 small local shop that carries some St. Croix premiers and cheaper stuff. There's another place an hour away but it's all budget rods too. Veritas, halo, ect Their tackle selection is pretty good though. I'm stuck buying online for rods/reels.

Update: rod has been shipped and is in transit. New estimated delivery date is 9-10. Looks like it cleared customs.

I wouldn't give up on them so fast. He hasn't fished a bfs model and people opinions vary from one to the next. Between poisonokie and myself. There will be a review on the 68another sites and the 69manother sites. I would hold off a bit

Definitely. I was torn between both models. It'll be interesting to see the differences in action. The 68l is a reg fast while the 69ml is x fast. I'll be using 20lb power pro super slick with an 8 lb (6 lb dia.) invisx leader.

Exactly we all don't think alike. My main gripe is the reel seat. That's not their fault. I didn't like it before and I'm not sure why I thought I could convince myself to this time. Second was balance. It balanced ok with a heavy reel but that's not what I wanted. I think part of it is how they decorated the rod 2ft up the blank with wraps and epoxy. The guide train is all double foot guides and the first couple are kinda big. The bfs models use micro guides though so it's not an issue. The blank itself was ok. Sensitivity was just ok. Wasn't as sensitive as I was hoping but it's also a $150 rod. Was just hoping for more I guess. It was also a heavy rod compared to others I own. Part of that could be from things I already mentioned. It's why I haven't pulled the trigger on a megabass rod yet.

a T3 on that reel seat fits my palm perfectly my fingers fit right in the indention under the gearbox. Not so much on the tatula reel seat. Those are awesome for bigger reels like the tatulas, but with a really low profile one like a t3 it feels like there isn't enough to grab onto.
