Seems like almost everybody uses Fuji seats. I know I do, for the most part. I just did a build using an Alps TexTouch casting seat. Very nice. A bit heavier than an ACS, but also a bit more comfortable. And, that is what is more important to me than weight in a reel seat. I despise that SK seat from Fuji. Not even close to comfortable, in my hands.

I guess what I want to ask is, who makes the most comfortable reel seat? The ACS is not bad, the ECS is a bit better, and the TexTouch is a bit better yet.

What I would like is for Daiwa to start selling the reel seats they used on the discontinued Light & Tough series of rods.

I know the Batson crew keeps track of what's being said on this forum. Why don't you guys take a look at that design, and do something like that. For me, a perfect casting reel seat would have the L&T base, with fewer threads, and the TexTouch hood and dual nut design. Perfection. If you guys made that, I would buy nothing else. I know I'm not alone in my opinion of that particular reel seat. If you want some pics, let me know. I'll take "em and post "em.

the Fuji SK2 spinning reel seat is very comfortable in my opinion , i know a lot of people don't like the SK2 casting reel seat , but i like it as i palm my reels so pretty much just use the trigger portion of the reel . I like a minamilistic reel seat , Fuji fits the bill , minimas aren't that comfortable .

I personally like the SK2 split or the ACS both in size 16.

I like the Alps MVT.  It's basically the TexTouch, but lighter and stronger because it's Toray carbon fiber.  I'm having a rod built with that right now.

I can take or leave split seats comfort wise due to the way I grip a reel. They are a pain to install with little advantage (a miniscule weight savings in the least critical area). I kind of like the ACS but they're a like it or hate it proposition from what I've seen. Reel seats are more prone to come loose from poor installation than to break.  The MVT looks cool but they are pricey and a little overkill, but then again overkill is a big part of custom rods or custom anything for that matter.

After trying umpteen casting reel seats I fit TCSM seats now. They're inexpensive, easy to fit and size, comfortable and reasonably light. I can't claim to notice any difference in sensitivity between these or the ones with the cut away where you can put your finger on the blank. I think that's a bit of marketing.

I agree with Gary and Mike that the seat is not a major concern when it comes to weight savings, but it can make or break the deal for a customer when it comes to comfort and appearances. If Someone wants to add some bling to a build without adding the extra cost to them and work for me, this is the first place I focus.

Personally, I like the PacBay exposed blank seats. Big hands and low profile reels mounted on a low profile seat make for joint discomfort. As with most components, personal preference is the main consideration. I do like the OP's idea. Sounds like a winner.

I like the Pac Bay Minima seats, both spinning and casting, and have had two rods built for me with those seats.

I pretty much stick to the ECS with trimmed threads.  I find both the Pac Bay and Fuji 2 piece seats to be hit or miss, I think blank diameter plays a roll in how comfortable they are.  I'm not a big fan of the ACS but I think they are the best looking, especially painted.   I actually haven't tried any of the Alps seats but I plan to try the MVT on a build.

Just got my hands on one of Fuji's new PTS casting seats. They've headed in the direction I just asked for. Nice seat; a bit lower feeling, a bit wider, an angled hood (like the Alps design), locking nut; what's not to like?

I'll tell what's not to bloody like. They make the damned thing in one size. 17mm ID. You want to use this seat? Then you need a tube of some sort with an OD of 17mm. Several places are now selling this seat. No one is selling the blasted tubes.

So, what is the purpose of the cut-out in front of the trigger? So you can put your finger on the blank? Well you ******* well can't do that now, can you?

Is this supposed to be sensitive? Glue in a tube, then glue in an arbor, then glue it all on to the blank. Yeah, right.

Thanks a fuji. Thanks for taking a good idea, and stuffing it up.

How could you tell? LOL

I think the ALPS seat is similar. Looks like it's cut out but actually it just has a silver tube inside.

Alps mvt is the most comfortable casting seat I've ever laid hands on. For spinning seats I prefer a Fuji vssm.

Ya.. We understand. That is why our seats are molded with fins on the inside of every seat. ALPS does its very best to think of all the unknown variables. I do believe you can take one of our shims meant for a different reel seat and use it for this. Don't know..

ALPS was first to market with the design, double locking nuts, dual channel, etc..  It is not even close to the same seat.

Thank you so much. Have you seen the new ALPS Rapid seat? http://alpsforecast.com/product-category/gear-components/gear-reel-seats/gear-graphite-reel-seats/
