I've seen the Hawgtech handles and some of the JDM handles, but have no clue about the quality and fit of any of the handles available. Any input would be appreciated. The handle will be going on my flipping reel(Core 100mgFV). Thanks.

I don't think either company builds a poor quality handle.

I suggest buying the one that meets your needs and go get a few lunkers

You can get a longer Shimano handle for another model and swap it out. If you want to spring for an after-market one why not support a sponsor in HawgTech? I've installed a few and they are well done.

Factory Shimano Metanium XG handle from Shimano Fish Shop. $34, 96mm, complete w/knobs. You will also need the retainer and screw, $4. They are great handles. Brian.

I like their swept handle a lot. I've also read where some people didn't care for the cap for the nut. I'm just gathering info at this point.

That's another option. I've already decided on the XG handle for my '13 Metanium. Guess I could keep the stock look for the Core.

The 90mm avail handles look very nice.

The Met xg handle is nice too. I had one on a Ch51 I built.

Hawgtech makes a nice handle. Only issue for me being they don't have a 90mm swept carbon handle. Also it won't except Daiwa knobs, and that's a total deal breaker.

Any aftermarket handle that runs North of 50 bucks should be of good quality. Avail, Semper Fi, and Basszone are all good.

I just want to do this handle once. Want to make sure I'm not disappointed because of tolerances. I read somewhere about an aftermarket handle that had a bad fit with its knobs. I can't deal with that. I know there's a million different options, lol.

I have at least half a dozen hawgtech handles. The deal about the cap nut is some people find them clunky but I think they look just fine. The most important attribute of the handles is the quality. They will not break, delaminate or distort. You can get cork, septon or winn grip knobs. The two owners are great guys & great fisherman.

What length are you wanting and what are you wanting to spend? You want carbon fiber or metal?

Went ahead and pulled the trigger on 2 complete Metanium handles since I was already getting one to replace my 6.2:1 Metanium's handle. Grabbed the nut cap and screw as well. Thanks for the input everyone!

I have 4 Hawgtech handles. 2-Shimano swept 102mm and 2 Daiwa (90 and 94mm straights)  Like them all, love the winn grips they have.  The 102 swept feels a little flexy but it's mainly torsional and causes no issues in use that I noticed.  The 94 straight is an absolute rock solid handle and with the Winn grips is my personal favorite.  I have the 94 on one of my TD-Z's.  Highly likely I will get more of these in the future.

Shimano Fish Shop. It will work on the Core, you might have to mod. your drag star a bit.  Brian.
