NotnatsSamoht Posted August 27, 2015 Posted August 27, 2015 I have been using Berkley big game for a year and the line twists occasionally surprise me and tie me in a knot during a cast, thinking about switching to a copolymer but not sure yet, it's for my spinning gear, is Yo Zuri hybrid good? ABW Posted August 27, 2015 Posted August 27, 2015 Yes it is good line. Although I've only used 12 lb, that was awesome for baitcasters. I'm sure the lighter lb tests will perform well on spinning. Quote
Super User flyfisher Posted August 27, 2015 Super User Posted August 27, 2015 i have a rod spooled up with the 8lb super soft and it is a great line. I wouldn't hesitate to put it on other rods that i wanted co polymer instead of my normal braid. Quote
papajoe222 Posted August 27, 2015 Posted August 27, 2015 I use both the Super Soft and regular Fluoro/Nylon Hybrid . If you're frustrated with line twist, changing line brands isn't going to solve the problem. Do a search for 'line twist' there are a number of threads on how to reduce/eliminate it, starting with how to spool it. Quote
Super User Darren. Posted August 27, 2015 Super User Posted August 27, 2015 Yes. It is a good line. I use it as a leader tied to braided mainline and in that it excels. 1 Quote

I'v already done that, the only thing left is the line, my rods with cheap line don't twist and knot during a cast like this Berkley big game does to me. I'v even tried line conditioner on it Quote
Super User Maxximus Redneckus Posted August 27, 2015 Super User Posted August 27, 2015 I have it on 6 combos 4lb to 15lb saltwater and fresh never had a problem in 5 yrs.i also use big game with never a problem Quote
d-camarena Posted August 27, 2015 Posted August 27, 2015 I also use big game and have never had a problem. I prefer mono over copolys but flouro is better than both Quote
Super User ChrisD46 Posted August 27, 2015 Super User Posted August 27, 2015 I have been using Berkley big game for a year and the line twists occasionally surprise me and tie me in a knot during a cast, thinking about switching to a copolymer but not sure yet, it's for my spinning gear, is Yo Zuri hybrid good? Tips : - For typical 2500 series try to stay with .011 inch diameter (or less) line size for mono. - Go to TW , look at their mono line selection and pick out one you like (I recommend : Seaguar Senchi in 12lb. size , Sufix Elite in 8lb. size) - Brush up on a You Tube video on spooling line on a spinning reel and after a cast also ALWAYS close the bail by hand after pulling slack line out first. If above still doesn't work for you - then give YZ Hybrid super soft a try ...Just thought to offer a less expensive option first ! 1 Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted August 27, 2015 Super User Posted August 27, 2015 Try #12 Hybrid, not the Ultra Soft, and see what you think. Most guys like it, some don't. The line is not expensive at MSRP, but is often on sale. Quote
Drew03cmc Posted August 27, 2015 Posted August 27, 2015 I need to order a spool, but I'm using Sufix Elite 8lb right now and am happy. I guess it's all in what makes you happy. Quote
Super User FryDog62 Posted August 27, 2015 Super User Posted August 27, 2015 In the past few years I replaced my main line flouros with 12 lb Yo-Zuri Hybrid on baitcasters, and 10 lb on spinning gear. Couldn't be happier. Stretches a lot less than fluorocarbon and I have not had and line manageability issues like you get with FC. Worth a try and economical too.. Quote
papajoe222 Posted August 27, 2015 Posted August 27, 2015 Is the twist with Big Game only happening on one reel? If so, check to make sure the roller on the bail is spinning freely. If it sticks under the slightest pressure remove, clean and lube the internal bearing. Something is causing the line to twist, it doesn't develop twists on its own. The only other thing that could cause a problem may be an over filled spool and the line is jumping off in coils during the cast. Quote
Super User WRB Posted August 27, 2015 Super User Posted August 27, 2015 What size spinning reel and what lb test line?? Big game isn't a small diameter line and Yo-Zuri is even bigger diameter in most lb test. The fact Big Game starts at 8 lb test @ .011D is a problem with most 2000 series spinning reels. You would be better off using a smaller diameter line with less memory, Yo-Zuri isn't the answer IMO unless you drop down to 6 lb test. P-line 8 lb FluoroClear is a hybrid that is strong with less memory, about the same diameter as 6 lb Yo-Zuri. Tom Quote
Super User FishTank Posted August 27, 2015 Super User Posted August 27, 2015 I like Yo Zuri hybrid but I only use the 6lb and 8lb on spinning gear. Quote
Super User bigbill Posted August 28, 2015 Super User Posted August 28, 2015 I used yo zuri hybrid copolymer line in 6# up to 10# on my spinning reels never a problem. Once you switch to a copolymer line you will like it way less stretch. Quote
Musky_Fever Posted August 28, 2015 Posted August 28, 2015 It's so good it makes me yell YO-ZURI! Quote
redux Posted August 28, 2015 Posted August 28, 2015 I use 15# YZH on a few of my bait casters. The rest have Sunline FX 2 60#. On one rod I have a long YZH 15# leader on Sunline. Very rarely do I have an issues breaking my YZH. Quote
powerduster Posted August 28, 2015 Posted August 28, 2015 I've used 6lb and 30lb line. Even the 6lb is very strong for what it is, which I spooled up on my stradic 3000 for fishing flounder using a light jig head. Got hit with a big stingray, which almost spooled me. I had to tighten down the drag and even used some hand pressure on the spool when I had like 4 wraps of line left on my spool. I got the hit on the beach side of the jetty and took me up and around the tip and back down the other side (inlet side) in strong running current. Normally I would have broken it off long ago, but was curious how much pressure I can add to a fight. popped it off when I brought it to the surface. It was big but they get a lot bigger. Quote
kikstand454 Posted August 28, 2015 Posted August 28, 2015 YZ is great. all I've used for a long time. I think your line twist problem is not related to your line. Quote
