G Loomis Imx 844C Mbr Vs Dobyns Champion 704C

Looking for a jig/texas rig rod that has great sensitivity and durabilty/warranty. I want to know your opinions on each rod from those who have used both. Also for fishing jigs/T-rigs would the medium-heavy versions of each of these rods be a better choice? (Loomis 843c MBR/ Dobyns 703c). Mainly fishing 3/8 to 3/4 jigs/T-rigs/spinnerbaits. Thanks!

I would stick with the 4 power if you pick the Dobyns based on your anticipated weights.

You may be ok with the 3 power in the loomis but if you are using 3/4 ounce baits more than the others get the 844.

There is new condition Loomis MBR844GLX on eBay right now that is being sold as used. You could get it at a great price and I can guarantee you that it's never been abused or landed a fish. The Loomis MBR844GLX is a heavy power but it's not a broomstick at all. It has a very nice tip and if you look at other manufactures lure weight rating for their rods, the 844 would be a MH instead of a heavy compared to other rods. I think of it as a MH+.

 

IMHO, you are getting out of the comfort range of the 843 with the weights that you listed.

 

Also, a quick Google Search will bring up lots of reading for you about the 843 and 844.

I bought a 6' 4 series IMX a month ago.

I would suggest taking John's advice. Nice rod..

Also, you may want to a look at a St Croix Avid Classic too.

Mine constantly impresses me. I like it better than the IMX for jigging.

I have the 844c IMX and it is a fine rod.  It can be used for just about anything but my dedicated jig and and worm rod is a 803c GLX.  The 844c I use for heavy jigs, top water, jerk baits and heavier T-rig set ups.  The 803c is by far the most sensitive of the two and fits it dedicated purpose far better than 844c.
