Power Pro Super 8

Just wondering what your thoughts are, if you've tried the line.  I've always been a Sufix braid guy but I was considering trying the Super 8 in 50lb test.  Sufix braid is pretty smooth.  How smooth is the Super 8 compared to Sufix braid?

is this the super slick or the standard power pro?  the standard power pro isn't as smooth as the suffix but the super slick is comparable if not more slick than the suffix in my opinion.  All three are good braids though.

I do think it makes a little difference.  I've noticed that w/ regular Power Pro, it's not that smooth and i don't like the idea of it eating into my guides.  I do think it helps casting distance a bit as well.

I like pp8 better because I think it's smoother and doesn't fade as fast or as completely. Also, it holds Alberto knots just fine, but I've had bad experiences using those with 832. I use similar diameter leaders, so I usually tie uni-uni knots for those, anyway.

 

Other than that, they are both high quality, slick, quiet, and abrasion resistant lines. If you have a reel spooled up with 832 I wouldn't go to the trouble or expense of replacing it with super slick. I have one spool filled with 832 and don't plan on changing it until it gets too low or completely wears out. Either way, that will be quite some time. Also, if I catch some on sale, I won't hesitate to buy that instead of super slick if it's more expensive.

Has anyone used the spider wire slick line? I believe its called "stealth" or something similiar. I received it in this months MTB.

I am not sure it makes much of a performance difference but it is noticeably quieter.  I just spooled up a bait caster with some standard power pro that i had laying around and it was noisier than my super slick set ups.  Not enough to make me want to change or anything but it was noticeable.  

 

Also, your braid shouldn't be eating into your guides and if it is, it is most likely a defect or an older rod.  I have used braid going on 5+ years and have yet to see one rod have guides get worn down from braid use.

I second this. Never seen this happen. I'm pretty sure newer rods, especially quality rods have special guides that prevent this.

I tried it earlier this year and after the first trip I put it on all my other rods that I use braid on. The biggest thing I didnt like with regular powerpro was the grinding feeling through the guides and this is 100% better. No wear issues for me, I use a flouro learder most of the time. Suffix is pretty smooth though I wouldnt switch unless your line is worn out.

I don't know on that stealth spider wire. I used their standard line once and it was crap.

The biggest issue with braid and guides is noise. Certain ceramics like oxides of zirconium and aluminum are very loud with braid going through them. Fuji's Alconite (whatever that is) is much quieter with regular power pro and completely silent with super slick.

I've never used anything with SiC inserts, so I don't know what those are like. Quieter still, I imagine.

Super slick 8 is quite and casts father in my experience. I use anywhere from 6-12 lb test solely. However, I did notice that he super slick 8 frays much easier and quicker than regular power pro, only lasting a few months of moderate use.

Do yourself a favor and stick with the 832,better yet if you're reel is ready to change line try the Seaguar Smackdown. Super smooth, super quite, and doesn't fray like crazy as SS8 does.

I've had good luck using super slick 8 on my spinning rods in 10 and 15 lb test. I run a flourocarbon leader, so I haven't had any issues with the line fraying or breaking. It's really smooth, with pretty much no braid noise coming through the guides

I wouldn't say it frays like crazy. I use mine pretty heavily and don't see much of a problem with it. It is stiffer than 832, but I actually like that about it.

I like the sound!  Makes me feel like I'm doing something when reeling in a fish.    Do not use braid when walking through briars!!!

It does sound wicked when your line is screaming through the guides when gatorslaunches makes a big charge.

I'll have to agree with most of these comments in this thread....SS8 is definitely smoother & quieter but it has a tendance to fray a little quicker than regular PP...You figured it would be the other way around because SS8 has a coating over the braid !

I don't notice noise or see enough significant casting distance to matter.  Unless you are whacking out 10#+ hard driving fish everyday, 1 line vs another is much to do about nothing.

I've used PP Super Slick on spinning gear and will stick with my normal PP and 832.  The Super Slick is silky smooth and quiet but my biggest complaint is wind knots.  Since it's not as stiff it tends to do what it wants if you have slack line - I've had more wind knots casting with this stuff than anything else, and, once it cinches down you're cutting the knot out, there's no "un-doing the knot" once Super Slick tightens down.

I've been using Power Pro, 832 and KastKing. They're all tough line with positives and negatives. 

I bought a spool of SS 50# today. I'll give it a shot for the first time tomorrow.

As of now I personally like the 832 the most out of the three of them.

I don't get wind knots with any brand so no issue there. SS8 is the strongest & quietest braid I have used. On moving baits is when noise is most noticeable for comparison to like Smackdown or 832 just nicer to fish with quiet SS8.
