ReidE Posted August 24, 2015 Posted August 24, 2015 I am working on building my rod dryer and purchased a 18 rpm motor. It's a tyc robust synchronous motor from eBay. I am going to use a pvc chuck but I need a little help on connecting the motor to the chuck. The shaft is 7 mm, I am looking for a coupler or adapter to get a bolt to connect to the motor. Does anyone have suggestions? Thanks in advance. Quote

Tim Kelly Posted August 24, 2015 Posted August 24, 2015 I used a bit of plastic aquarium tube from the motor to the rod connection. Quite honestly though, the rod dryer Mudhole do for like $35 makes it not worth messing about with DIY solutions. Quote
Kentuckysteve Posted August 24, 2015 Posted August 24, 2015 Why not use a longer piece of pvc and build a chuck on both ends of it.You could even use more bolts on the shaft end to grip it better.I have never built one so i really dont know.Just an idea. Quote
Super User .ghoti. Posted August 24, 2015 Super User Posted August 24, 2015 glue an end cap on the pvc, and drill a 7mm hole in the middle of it. glue it on with contact cement. Just enough to keep it in place, but still removable if necessary. 2 Quote
ReidE Posted August 24, 2015 Author Posted August 24, 2015 Thanks for the replies. I will probably be able to build it Thursday along with a hand wrapper. Quote
Tiller Posted August 25, 2015 Posted August 25, 2015 You can buy a 7mm shaft coupling off eBay as well for a couple bucks. I purchased a 7mm/8mm coupling and just used an 8mm bolt to connect to my pvc chuck. Quote

BassResource.com Advertiser FD. Posted September 5, 2015 BassResource.com Advertiser Posted September 5, 2015 Pic pipe with a cap that's metered for reduced air flow on one end and a hair dryer on the other end a rod dryer oven? Nope. You don't want heat when the epoxy is curing. 70-80 degrees air dry. Quote
Super User bigbill Posted September 5, 2015 Super User Posted September 5, 2015 Where go you gals/guys/youngsters get your rod building supplies at? Quote
Sam Kirk Posted May 13, 2023 Posted May 13, 2023 I am just starting rod building most purchases are Amazon and then E Bay. Most I have purchased has been tools, epoxy and guides. I have not purchased a rod blank. My first one was stripping down to a rod blank. After I finish this I will have a better time starting from scratch. Thank God for this forum. I just booked two weeks in Fort Wilderness campground then one week in December after that two months for the winter in January. One Large Mouth Bass did this to me. Quote
spoonplugger1 Posted May 23, 2023 Posted May 23, 2023 www.rodbuilding.org has a lot of great sponsors all listed on the left, all mentioned above are linked there and others also. They also have a free library of articles from RodMaker Magazine that you can download or print in .pdf format, Common Cents power and action angle listings, and about 20 years of knowledge from other tournament angler/rod builders in the archives. New innovations and materials are discussed there years and sometimes a decade before you see them used on production rods. Examples: Carbon tube grips, foam/carbon skin grips, skeleton reel seats, micro guides, spiral wrapped casting rods (multiple ways), rod balancing, split grips, etc. Quote
