I just ordered an Alphas SV as the title states and i was wondering what rods you guys are pairing them with. Are you using medium rods or are you going medium light? This is my first reel with the SV spool and I have two medium/fast action rods but no medium lights. Are these still too stiff to cast light baits with or have they been working for you?  I'm mainly looking to use this for weightless flukes, worms and senkos. Any help would be apprecitated.

you might get away from fast action and go more moderate. I got a shallow sv spool for my T3 and I'm thinking the med light tatula will be the best match. It fishes mod fast and is rated 1/4-5/8, but from what I've heard it seems more like 1/8-1/2. Anyway, a more moderate action will aid in casting distance and hook sets with small, needle sharp hooks while helping protect light line from shock.

Unless you are planning to cast tiny flukes, 3" inch senkos and 4 " worms then you would get some benefit from a ML rod.

If you are wanting a rod for flukes, senkos, and basically any soft bait rigged weightless you will want at the very least a medium. I don't know about others but a true ML rod will not give adequate hook sets for plastics. I use my custom Alphas with an SV spool on DX 703 which is a rod rated as a MH though it might actually fish a touch lighter. The reel and the spool really are fine from 1/8 to a 1/2 oz. Flukes and senkos are close to 3/8 oz by the time you factor in the weight of the hook. If I was in your shoes and wanting to fish what you described in your last sentence it would be a Medium to MH depending upon manufacturer.

I use a MH rod for weightless Senkos and Flukes, doesn't really matter what reel.   If you want to cast light stuff, a ML would be a better choice.

My Alphas SV rode an NRX 853c. Pretty good match. Weightless Senkos aren't light. I'd go M or a light MH.

The Alphas SV is not necessarily a finesse reel. Brass gears say the Alphas SV does what it wants. I would even frog with it if you could manage the line cap.

Thanks everyone for the help.I usually use a medium heavy and curado i for senkos but wanted something that will cast super flukes and trick worms with more ease. I guess I will just go ahead and put it on one of my mediums.

I've had mine on a medium light Phenix Recon, and a medium Major Craft Corzza. I don't think it really matters as long as the rod power matches the baits you want to use. The Alphas SV just wants to cast and doesn't care what it's casting. It's a casting machine and can handle a lot as long as line capacity isn't an issue.
