Murv Posted August 23, 2015 Posted August 23, 2015 I have been trying to get Strike King to offer the blue gizzard shad color on there 1.5 crankbaits. So far, to no avail. I've tried to reproduce the color but haven't been able to get it right.. Can someone give me some insight in exactly how to paint this color on a bait. Quote
Big C Posted August 23, 2015 Posted August 23, 2015 It doesn't look too hard. I would go pearl base coat, black scales on the sides trying to keep it off the top (it would muddle the blue), then blue on top. I haven't tried to replicate it, but it looks like the hard part is finding the right shade of blue for the back. It looks like a sweet color pattern to replicate. If you get it right post a pic, I'd be interested in seeing it. BTW Welcome to BR. Quote
Super User Big Bait Fishing Posted August 23, 2015 Super User Posted August 23, 2015 i think the natural shad is even better than the blue gizzard shad . almost same colors but more realistic ... Quote

Crank Bait Nut Posted August 26, 2015 Posted August 26, 2015 The Blue You Need For The Body Is (FasChange Blue Highlight Lexan Paint PAR40181) , Do What Big C , Said Above , Base Coat Pearl , Then Reduce The FasChange Blue and Spray Over The Pearl. You Will See The Blue Shift As You Move The Bait , Once You Clear Coat It Will Make The Blue Stand Out Even Better. If You Want A Transparent Look , You Will Have To Use A Knock Off Blank , Reduce The FasChange Blue and Spray Over The Clear Plastic , The Effect Is Really Nice As Well. I Can't Say What Blue To Use On The Top , I'd Have To See A Pic. My 2 Cents , Hope It Helps. Mike Quote
Murv Posted September 7, 2015 Author Posted September 7, 2015 I've been trying to get the color right, and think I'm close. Will try to post pics when I get the lures done. I tried to paint scales on them tonight, but when I lifted the netting off, there were bubbles where the netting was. What am I doing wrong?, Is it too much pressure or what? Quote
Crank Bait Nut Posted September 10, 2015 Posted September 10, 2015 Sounds Like Your Holding The Netting Too Tight. Mike Quote
