Rob G. Posted May 8, 2007 Posted May 8, 2007 Just wondering what brand tungsten weights you all use and where you buy them. I would like to find them cheaper that what I have been able to. I personally have been using Tru-Tungsten and like the weights without the plastic inserts through the hole. Quote
Super User Gatorbassman Posted May 8, 2007 Super User Posted May 8, 2007 I use Tru-tungsten all the time. They are great. You can't beat the feel of tungsten. They have a new weight out for C-Rigs called the Finesse Carolina Weights. They are outstanding. Quote
The_Natural Posted May 8, 2007 Posted May 8, 2007 Definitely Tru-Tungsten...there really isn't any competition for them right now. They are sleeveless and have a totally indestructable finish. That's all I use... Quote
Siebert Outdoors Posted May 8, 2007 Posted May 8, 2007 true tungsten is awsome stuff. I found a store that was clearing them out or had some samples. Dont know for sure but I paid 10 cents a weight, and jighead. I bought everything they had. cost me about 3 bucks for about 10-15 dollars worth of jigheads and weights. Even some 1.5oz carolina rig weights. These things are awsome. Nothing I have fished with even compare Quote
Super User .ghoti. Posted May 8, 2007 Super User Posted May 8, 2007 I finally got tired of sorting out all the lead weights with the tips bent over or smashed shut, and started buying Ultra Steel weights. Problem solved. I've never had to discard any. They are very hard and smooth. I've had no line cuts from these weights, ever. Much better feel than lead weights. $2.50 for 25 weights. Cheap. Tru Tungsten weights? 5 bucks for 3 weights? I don't think so. Quote
Cousin Eddie Posted May 8, 2007 Posted May 8, 2007 It took me a while before I decided to spend 1-2 dolars per weight, but they are a distinct advantage, no question. When you think about it you spend much more for other lures so why shouldn't your T-rigs top notch. Fact is I don't really LOSE that many weights they just get beat up. I've been using BPS havn't tried Tru-Tungsten. Are they smoother? Quote
flyphisher # Posted May 8, 2007 Posted May 8, 2007 Think the ones I use are T3's??? I dont know...I know they are not tru-tungsten... They have a sleeve that has never given me any problems. Always use plastic beads or the Tru-tungsten force beads...the wts will break a glass bead and cut your line pretty quick. Quote
Micropterus salmoides Posted May 8, 2007 Posted May 8, 2007 What color Tru-Tungsten weights do you guys use? Quote
The_Natural Posted May 8, 2007 Posted May 8, 2007 I use the black Tru-Tungstens 95% of the time. I have some red and green pumpkin in a few sizes as well, but the stained water around here has me throwing dark colors most of the time. Quote
basscat73 Posted May 8, 2007 Posted May 8, 2007 If I fish a big tournament, which is not often, I'll use the tungsten. But, up here it da north, we have too many toothy critters (musky, pickerel, walleye, etc) to deal with for me to use tungsten on a regular basis. I use ultra steel and like them quite a bit! Quote
Super User flechero Posted May 8, 2007 Super User Posted May 8, 2007 I use both tru-tungsten and excaliber. I throw a lot of 3/16 for t-rig and 5/8 for c-rig and I haven't ever seen tru-tunsten in 5/8 and hardly see it in 3/16. I have no issue with the cost of tungsten, I would love it at the price of lead but it's like any other quality item, I will pay for good stuff. I felt like I caught more fish with tungsten and I know I felt more bottom detail. I don't lose many weights so $1 ea. isn't a problem... especially when you look at the cost of hard baits now a days. Quote
JigNBig Posted May 9, 2007 Posted May 9, 2007 I'm like everyone else here, Tru Tungsten is the way to go. If I am under a kind of tight budget the only time I use them is in open water when I really need to feel the bottom. Flippin using these weights is good because they are sensitive and like 40% smaller than lead. Actually, I find myself flipping using lighter weights with tungsten for some reason. Probably because the smaller size slips through better. Anytime I Carolina Rig I use these weights also. Quote

Super User FishTank Posted May 9, 2007 Super User Posted May 9, 2007 I like Tru-tungsten 1/8oz or 3/16oz in black but for deep water or for flipping the tru-tungsten flipping weights 3/8oz black is killer. Quote
