stk44 Posted August 20, 2015 Posted August 20, 2015 Guys, Just wanted to say thanks for the advice on switching to smaller baits and smaller line. I've been getting about 5 or 6 bass in a 2-3 hour period fishing mornings and evenings. The ticket was the lighter gear. I really like using heavy line, heavy weight, and big baits. It took not catching fish for a couple of outings to switch to a more simple finesse setup. Been having a blast moving a 4" senko in and around weeds and lily pads and having bass crush it. Thanks, Steve Quote
FinCulture Posted August 20, 2015 Posted August 20, 2015 glad you're having some luck! Hopefully I'm right behind you as I'm trying to get more into finesse fishing Quote
Kentuckysteve Posted August 21, 2015 Posted August 21, 2015 If your not already using it,switch to fluorocarbon. Its invisible and more sensitive.Won't stretch. It's amazing for finese fishing. Steve 1 Quote
GodfatherOfSeoul Posted August 21, 2015 Posted August 21, 2015 Finesse is the way to go this time of year! Quote

Do you use a heavier flouro leader than your mainline? I only have 10, 12 , 15 lb seaguar leader material. I usually just tie on 10lb flouro. Quote

I was just reading about the fluoro and the line manufacturers say it stretches more than mono.I did not know this.Never too old to learn something new. I use 8lb diameter PP braid, with a 6lb mono leader on my drop shot setup. I tried flouro but it twists wayyyy to much for me, since the switch I haven't had a single issue with line twist. Quote
stk44 Posted August 21, 2015 Author Posted August 21, 2015 Are there any benefits of using a thinner diameter main line and a thicker diameter leader? Quote
Fisher-O-men Posted August 21, 2015 Posted August 21, 2015 Are there any benefits of using a thinner diameter main line and a thicker diameter leader? Only if the main line is braid. I will only use FC as a leader. The stuff is nasty to cast! I know, my experience, my opinion, for what its worth. Quote
MrBigFishSC Posted August 21, 2015 Posted August 21, 2015 Just use straight FC Sniper 7# or 8# spooled properly on a spinning reel and be done with it. Spend your time fishing. Quote
Biggens Posted August 22, 2015 Posted August 22, 2015 Used a finess tactics with a Texas rig worm to land 5 pounder maybe bigger. Virginia beach Quote
MDBowHunter Posted August 22, 2015 Posted August 22, 2015 Are there any benefits of using a thinner diameter main line and a thicker diameter leader? I try to use close to the same diameter lines, it makes tying the two together much easier then using two different diameter lines. Quote
