I'm going down to Miami tomorrow to visit my family, and on the way from the airport I'm gonna pick up an El cheapo two piece rod at the BPS. I'm bringing one of my casting reels down with, and some tackle, and plan on doing some bank fishing. Question is: what are the hot lures down there. I know what they like up here in NJ,is it the same down there color wise. I'm thinking top waters and spinners. Also what's a lisence cost for a non resident for a week.

What are you planning to fish for? If you are going for Peacocks,  midsize jerkbaits are "hot" right now. As far as license fees here you go: http://www.myfwc.com/license/

Awesome, thanks for that license info. Duh I should of known better and googled it... How about spooks? I'm also targeting LM Bass so what are they eating down south, and colors. Just hit cover, and lay downs and such?

Thanks

white jerkbait

So white flukes with jig heads, or hard jerk baits

Spooltek is hot down here.

A Florida bass will like a New Jersey lure just fine.

I took Florida snook lures to California last month for stripers, they were appreciated.

Spooks will do fine too, and yes focus on working cover. Good luck. Where abouts Miami will you be fishing?

A Light bottom colored Frog in the morning, plum colored 10" worm and soft paddle tail swim baits (49er Big EZ or a houdini Skinny Dipper) the rest of the day.

I prefer to go for weedless, since there's a lot of vegetation in South Florida waters. And if you aren't sure what you'll be getting into, having weedless options is always nice. Flukes are very versatile and can cover water at various depths. You could get bites from Bass, Peacock Bass, Snook, and Tarpon (the latter being more of an urban legend for me) while being weedless.

Hard jerkbaits like Yozuri also kick ass in the open water. Have fun!

I agree about the fluke in south Florida freshwater canals, always some kind of vegetation.  Same fluke can be used in ICW or ocean for snook and tarpon I've caught 100's if not thousands.  Fluke catches everything down here, IMO the only must have lure, either weedless or on jig head.
