Matthew2000 Posted August 26, 2015 Posted August 26, 2015 I've had some terrific blow-ups and hookups on the Pomp this summer, but the good fish keep coming unbuttoned halfway to the boat - it's a big problem that I generally don't have with the spook. Might be bad luck on my part, but it's resulted in a lot of heartbreak for me so far. What line and rod are you using to throw the pompadour? Quote
annexation Posted August 26, 2015 Posted August 26, 2015 What line and rod are you using to throw the pompadour? Same stuff I usually throw the spook on - heavy action rod with 50 lb. power pro. It's crossed my mind that the hook could be ripping out of them, but I'm not so sure. 1 Quote
Comfortably Numb Posted August 27, 2015 Posted August 27, 2015 I was not impressed with the G2 Shellcracker. Sluggos were a game changer for me when they first came out. Quote
stkbassn Posted August 27, 2015 Posted August 27, 2015 I bought a couple of those Molix, scrounger type swimming jigs and absolutely hated them. They didn't perform consistently and didn't stay down in the water column at all. I loved the way they looked, just not how they fished. Also, any type of flukes...never caught a single fish on a fluke....i hear they produce numbers....not for me. Quote

My first thought is that heavy rod may be tearing the hook out, but it also could be the strait braid with trebles. I was having that problem when throwing it on my friends Heavy flipping stick. I changed it up to a 7'6 Med Hvy St.Croix mojo, haven't lost a fish since, I'm using 50 lb power pro. Could just be you need to change the treble up, Maybe try a EWG treble. 1 Quote
Adkfishing Posted August 27, 2015 Posted August 27, 2015 I will a ton of crap for this but, the *** lunker frog. 1 Quote
T-Rick Posted August 28, 2015 Posted August 28, 2015 For me it is the A-Rig. I bought a combo for it specifically (Mojo Bass and BPS PQ) and never caught a fish. Guess I should try again this year. Quote
Super User Big Bait Fishing Posted August 28, 2015 Super User Posted August 28, 2015 lucky craft sammy , should have never spent 16 bucks on it , now it just sits on a shelf never to be fished again... Quote

JeziHogg Posted August 28, 2015 Posted August 28, 2015 Havoc Sick fish, although I catch bass with it from time to time the action is really underwhelming. 1 Quote
powerduster Posted August 28, 2015 Posted August 28, 2015 lucky craft sammy , should have never spent 16 bucks on it , now it just sits on a shelf never to be fished again...the sammy is my favorite topwater lure. It casts very well and walks so smoothly. The finish could be better though, but that's with a lot of baits. You just don't catch anythingg on it or is it somethingg else?Another lure i never did well with were the traditional looking spoons, like the dareddevil, johnson silver minnow, cleos, etc. Quote
Super User the reel ess Posted August 28, 2015 Super User Posted August 28, 2015 I will a ton of crap for this but, the *** lunker frog. I got a few bites on mine before it waterlogged and was returned to the box in favor of Pad Crasher. Quote

jdl2425 Posted August 28, 2015 Posted August 28, 2015 The rapala subwalk. Don't know why I thought walking the dog underwater would be a good idea. It's hard to walk it when you can't see it. Quote

Super User bigbill Posted August 28, 2015 Super User Posted August 28, 2015 I am stubborn when a lure doesn't work. I try it often for a year then rotate it out. After a while it goes back in my box. After a few more tries and still nothing. It may become a Christmas ornament. Lol Quote
stk44 Posted August 29, 2015 Posted August 29, 2015 Live target field mouse. It's really cool, but the body fills up with water every 8-10 casts and you have to squeeze it. The problem is when it fills up with water and sinks while its around weeds and gets tangled up. There shouldn't be a reason to lose a top water frog/mouse unless a bass pulls it under. 1 Quote
squirtbait Posted August 30, 2015 Author Posted August 30, 2015 Now that we know which lure stinks, how about line?? Which line will you never buy again?? I stopped buying cheap fluro, it breaks me off way too often. I like P-line fluro!! BH Quote

I stopped buying cheap fluro, it breaks me off way too often. I like P-line fluro!! BH I won't buy Stren mono again unless it's the only mono made. It's pitiful to me that a "premium" brand of mono is inferior to Big Game, which you buy by the pound. Quote
squirtbait Posted August 30, 2015 Author Posted August 30, 2015 ever use P-line? i use it all the time in green moss. BH Quote

jr231 Posted August 4, 2016 Posted August 4, 2016 (edited) The scatter rap Is awesome ! I've caught 30+ bass on them alone this summer. And some really nice ones on the scatter rap shad. In yellow perch. One being around 5 pounds and 20inches. The lure I'm most disappointed in is the river to sea "clackin crayfish" for 13 dollars it's total garbage. Doesn't hardly land right side up no matter what knot or line you are using. . Ohh and the KVD red pliers. Everything with his name on it is supposed to be "KVD approved " the spring popped out the first time using it and now it doesn't hardly want to open. Because of this I've avoided anything that says KVD on it. You might think I'm missing out. But I catch bass all day long without anything from strike King .
