atcoha Posted August 21, 2015 Posted August 21, 2015 that circuit board squarebill orashi/whatever...seems like a fish detractor for me. Quote
*Hank Posted August 21, 2015 Posted August 21, 2015 I was very disappointed with the Berkley flicker shad...never could find one that would run straight. Quote
BannedForSpamming-1234555 Posted August 21, 2015 Posted August 21, 2015 I forgot the name but it was about 20yrs ago and they had commercials for it on tv. Not the banjo minnow but it was a soft plastic tube like but it was suppose to glide under docks and cover. Â I was disapoint 1 Quote
Silas Posted August 21, 2015 Posted August 21, 2015 Do any of you guys still use a RAGE SHAD?? Looks nice but I haven't caught a fish on it. Caught many on Stanley Ribbit however. Sometimes I think it's the waters you fish as to what works. I think that plastic bait that glided was the HELICOPTER BAIT on TV. 2 Quote
RUSS9999 Posted August 21, 2015 Posted August 21, 2015 For me its anything made by Live Target. A box full of Live Target baits and no bites 2 Quote
Primus Posted August 21, 2015 Posted August 21, 2015 I was immediately attracted to the shape of the "Strike King Structure Bug", but it turned out to be a disappointment. More important to me than shape is reliable 'tail action' at very slow forward speeds. The structure bug failed in that area, which I replaced with the 'Zoom Z-Craw', which has a larger profile and far more reliable action.  Roger   I've been killing them with that bait since it's been released . Either T-rig or on a swinghead. Bait has a ton of action, but you have to detach the appendages as they are molded together . Try more weight, I usually fish with  a minimum 3/8 oz sinker and 3/4 oz structure jighead has been money for me fishing outside weedlines in 15'-20' of water dragging it like a football jig . Quote
RB 77 Posted August 21, 2015 Posted August 21, 2015 The first thing that popped into my mind was the Shimano Waxwing. I know it is billed mostly as a salt water bait but the small version looked like they would be deadly for a schooly reaction bite. Nope! Just like salt water bass fishing I busted one out in the middle of a WFO bite and it took what seemed like forever to get a bite. I love Shimano reels, but the lures... We'll see. I just bought a ton of Flat Falls which have been absolutley deadly on the Tuna grounds this season. Don't think I havent been spying the smaller compact versions for some suspended and deep water structure freshwater applications. Quote

If you fish a major impoundment where the fish will go 20' deep to structure during the summer, a trick work rigged weightless or a shallow-running crank won't get em. I never caught much off Rat-L-Traps until I started fishing a local watershed. They eat up the gold one year-round because there are gold shiners in there. Water clarity plays a big role too. Â Then there are places they'll hit dang near anything because they're starving and don't know when they'll see another meal. Quote

Super User bigbill Posted August 21, 2015 Super User Posted August 21, 2015 Thanks tcbass. My gf and my son's gf usually get t-rigged stickbaits for the same reason. They don't know how to fish well and it's not uncommon for them to outfish us! I showed my son the rattle bobber with live bait or a smaller 1" grub for crappie he out fished everyone. Quote
Super User Catt Posted August 21, 2015 Super User Posted August 21, 2015 Flying Lure Got some around here so where My biggest disappointment is Brush Hogs! Hammer em on Baby Brush Hogs! Brush Hogs aint caught a single fish! 3 Quote
Super User Ratherbfishing Posted August 21, 2015 Super User Posted August 21, 2015 It's funny how all across the board everyone is. Â A friend of mine HATED spinner baits until the time we went out and slayed the bass with them. Â Now I'm pretty sure he has more spinner baits than I do. Quote
Super User ww2farmer Posted August 21, 2015 Super User Posted August 21, 2015 Some very popular baits that I HAVE USED, but I do not care for:  Zoom Super Flukes............I like this "type" of bait (soft plastic jerkbait) but not the Super Fluke,  Brush Hog baits of any size, style or brand  Anything with the name Rapala on it.  The Luck-e-Strike Rick Clunn jerkbaits and squarebills  Z-man or SK plastics made of elaztech  Any and all umbrella rigs  Tubes  Owner and Trokar hooks  Just about everything Missile baits makes  Spot remover jig heads  And these jumbo crankbaits like the SK 10xd 1 Quote
RAMBLER Posted August 22, 2015 Posted August 22, 2015 Squarebill 8.0. Â It would be almost as easy to cast and retrieve my anchor and I would catch just as much on it as I do the 8.0. 1 Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted August 22, 2015 Global Moderator Posted August 22, 2015 Man, so many baits listed that I have a lot of success with. Crazy how bass will eat a bait in one part of the country but not in another.  The BBZ Shad was a huge failure for me, even the wipers and white bass wouldn't touch it. 1 Quote
Super User scaleface Posted August 22, 2015 Super User Posted August 22, 2015 I am the only person i know who had good luck with the flying lure. It glided backwards, it really did just like on the commercial. Now I didnt catch a lot of bass with them but caught a lot of panfish . Â Â Experienced anglers thought them a joke . Inexperienced anglers did not have the skills to work them correctly . Â Quote
squirtbait Posted August 22, 2015 Author Posted August 22, 2015 I too have seen a lot of baits listed that I've used and caught many fish on. So my next questions would be what is the hottest color where you live. I use a lot of baby bass and shad colors in hard baits and watermelon, pumkinseed in some plastics. BH Quote
Super User Jrob78 Posted August 22, 2015 Super User Posted August 22, 2015 Oddly enough, it's the buzzbait for me. Â I have never caught a bass on a buzzbait and I have been fishing them off and on for 25 years. Â Quote
Jon G Posted August 22, 2015 Posted August 22, 2015 I can't buy a bite on a regular size brush hog. Baby Brush hogs are a totally different story Quote
Racerx Posted August 22, 2015 Posted August 22, 2015 I've had several, but the one that sticks out to me, right now, is the Northland Tackle Jaw-Breaker. Not one d**n bite, so when I lost it to a snag, I wasn't heartbroken. Not replacing it, either. Quote
Lendiesel22 Posted August 22, 2015 Posted August 22, 2015 The pure poison bladed jig. Chatter bait smokes it. Quote
Super User the reel ess Posted August 22, 2015 Super User Posted August 22, 2015 It's funny how all across the board everyone is. Â A friend of mine HATED spinner baits until the time we went out and slayed the bass with them. Â Now I'm pretty sure he has more spinner baits than I do. Jimmy Houston and Hank Parker made a living on these. I've got a friend who hates them though I'll fish from back of his boat and kill him with them. He won't use them no matter how good they are. Â I have another friend who refuses to use T-rigs. He'd rather bream fish than slow down to catch bass. He wants to fish the entire place every time he goes. I can fish 1/3 of the reservoir and catch some on a T-rig 10 months out of the year. C'mon! If you won't throw a T-rig, you're consciously limiting your catch. Worming ins the first bass fishing I ever did. Quote
Super User the reel ess Posted August 22, 2015 Super User Posted August 22, 2015   Any and all umbrella rigs  Tubes   +1 these and I'll add larger swimbaits so far. Quote
